I sent a e-mail to the church telling them that their vision statement was the topic of debate on this thread, and inviting someone, preferably Reverend Wright, to weigh in. Hopefully, we'll have the only authority on what Reverend Wright thinks telling us what Reverend Wright thinks.
We already have that in Wright's published talking points:
Quote:
"The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theologythat started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology."
Too bad what he says in those talking points is not what you keep claiming he says.
Exact quote. Word for word:
Quote:
"The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theologythat started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology."
Wright: "U.S. of KKKA," and many more ugly racist statements...
Obama: Attends Wright's racist church for 20+ years. Gets married in the racist church. Has his daughters baptized in the racist church.

Reason: Discuss the topic, not others
Sure it is. It's just one of many examples of Rev. Wright's racism.
If Obama objected to Wright's racism, he wouldn't have remained a church member for 20+ adult years, wouldn't have stated Wright was his spiritual mentor, wouldn't have been married in that racist church, and wouldn't have had his daughters baptized in that racist church.
For example, I was raised as a Roman Catholic. However, the RC Church has harbored pedophile priests which is something I cannot condone. Therefore, I do not attend a RC Church, I didn't get married in the RC Church, and my children were not baptized in the RC Church.
You'd have to ask Rev. Wright that. He specifically cites Cone as founding systemized Black Liberation Theology with the publication of his book in 1969.
Wright's perspective on who and what started systemized Black Liberation Theology on which he states Trinity UCC's vision is based, Wright's racist statements, and Obama's 20+ year endorsement of the same, are the issue.
So if I sent a letter to the nearest town to start a library, I can consider myself a founder of the library?
So if I sent a letter to the nearest town to start a library, I can consider myself a founder of the library?
Irrelevant.
What matters is what Rev. Wright himself stated:
Quote:
"The vision statement of Trinity United Church of Christ is based upon the systematized liberation theologythat started in 1969 with the publication of Dr. James Cone’s book, Black Power and Black Theology."
The American people have had no problem making the distinction, twice.
