Where is critical thought? If I saw a $200 tip on a $25 bill...I would hold the line.

This girl is dirty and she knows it.

If the customer had left $200 in cash that would have been one thing, but writing it down on the receipt, she should have checked with a manager before running that through.

I don't know about Virginia, but I know in Oregon if they don't total it up at the bottom servers would just void the tip to prevent anything like this from happening.

The lesson here, be clear when you sign the credit card slip so that someone doesn't think you just tipped $200 due to poor handwriting.

Did you even read the article or see the picture of the receipt ?

It's pretty clear...200.00 is what he wrote on that receipt.
Nothing poor about that handwriting at all.

There are all sorts of news stories about people giving big tips, it's not completely unbelievable somebody would do so.

I don't think he meant to tip $200, but what he should have done is total it out instead of sign there so there wouldn't be a question.

It's not just bad handwriting to say 200 or 2.00...it was 200,00 on the receipt (the comma is as it was on the receipt).

I did read the article and no it isn't clear that is what he wrote. It looks like the pen didn't work the first time which resulted in the two extra zeros that he probably wrote first, and then the guy signed his name where the total is. If the person wasted to be clear about it, they would have totalled the bill up as well. She was in the wrong with this one, she shouldn't have cashed it out without getting a manager to approve it first. Which looking at that receipt, no manager would have given her $200 dollars.

It's questionable. It looks like someone added the last 2 zeros to the receipt.

When I add a tip, I add the amount then I immediately add my initials, there is no chance of anyone trying to add anything else.

I think that comma was a part of a 3, before the person changed their mind and wrote 200 with no period.

The customer could have simply filled out the bill in the proper manner to avoid any confusion. I'm sure he/she will in the future.

It definitely looks like $200.00 to me, too.

However, the cynic in me wonders if the last two zeroes were added by someone other than the customer. Look at the first two zeros - they are smaller than the number 2, indicative of someone trying to indicate $2.00.

Exactly what i was thinking. I don't see anything indicating that this was a mistake.
