So... if the homeowner had been armed and had opened fire on the man that many times, they'd instantly be under scrutiny for not using only as much force as necessary to stop the threat. But if you're a cop, you and your fellow officers can basically empty your magazines into the suspect with impunity. Gotcha.
I think they over reacted but maybe they did only take that action when the suspect reached an area with bystanders nearby. He could have attacked them or taken them hostage or tried to run and the risk was that they'd be injured if they opened fire at him in a crowd.
Crappy police work to some extent, definitely an over zealous eagerness to shoot to kill. What ever happened to taking out his legs? And as for a judge and DA to decide what was justified, since when have they shown to always make sound judgments? Judges and attorneys are idiots like everybody else.

The idea it was crappy police work is just your best uneducated guess, with no facts or knowledge to back it up. The man was a threat to public safety and the threat needed to be eliminated.
As far as "taking out his legs", these are cops, not Roy Rogers who shoots the weapon out of the bad guy's hand. You're projecting fantasy. They tased him and it had no effect.
Cops are trained to shoot until the threat is gone. Aim for center mass and don't stop until the perp is down, and then you handcuff him until they are declared dead.
"Judges and attorney's are idiots like everybody else", well you proved that statement is correct.
If that poor man would have run the shears through your family member, you would have a different outlook. Why didn't those dumb cops shoot the guy before he killed my family member.

This is where the '"PROTECT and SERVE" fell to the wayside.

we need more laws on the state books like Indiana has.
He will not be exposing his nuts and trying to kill any more dogs. Good riddance, he will no longer be emitting CO2.
