Yeah but thats because evil wants to prevail.

What Im concerned is the present and will my city be bombed.

I believe that there is a very real danger thanks to the weak idiot in the White House who loves the prestige of the job, but is not qualified to do it even half assed. He indirectly or directly made the way easy for them to do it.

For one thing, the open borders in the southern states will allow them to trickle in. Funny, how when you board a jet, there is so much security, i dont see them frisking people or patting down the illegal invaders that are invading our southern borders.

We managed to fill up Guantanamo with "dangerous terrorists" () and we captured a bunch of others and sent them abroad under a policy of rendition.

Our government keeps telling us that they killed the "number two man in Al Qaeda" (about 100 times) and we got Bin Laden.

So then, why in 2014 are we facing some thread named ISIS who according to many conservatives is poised to dominate and take over the whole world?

What exactly were we doing between 2001 and 2014 and were we really having all this success against terrorists that our Pentagon and CIA claimed that we did?

What the real truth appears to be is that we CREATED a bunch of terrorists and terrorism more than we extinguished them...by a long shot.

In fact, outside of a few big named terrorists that we've manage to kill or capture, I don't think we've had a lick of success against terrorism. Most of those bozos in Guantanamo are probably nothing more than p*ssed off goat herders that got turned in by people that had a personal beef with them.

We've dropped hundreds of billions of dollars on this GWOT and we've got nothing to show for it. Not from what I can see anyway. The Middle East is just as jacked up as it was in 2001.
It's even worse than that. We destabilized Iraq which has led to a civil war, which helped destabilize Syria, which help create ISIL, which strengthen Iran.

And yet the conservatives who led us into that epically disastrous Iraq war are still running their fat mouths.

Their shame and humiliation at the utter chaos their policy preferences have created should be as tall as the Willis Tower( formerly known as the Sears Tower) in Chicago.

Yet they say nothing about getting everything wrong in Iraq. They don't apologize. They don't rethink anything.

Instead here are these same people trying to cheer lead us into another epic disaster. Learning absolutely nothing.

We arm the mujahideen and we get the Taliban and al Qaeda.

We invade Iraq and we get ISIL.

Yeah let's keep doing that. This time, this time, this time it will work.

Another incredible aspect is we spend so many years training self defense forces in Iraq and they cannot fight. My brother was in Afghanistan for a few years and comments the local troops are generally unreliable as well.

Something is wrong with how we train and lead these forces.

Looks like South Vietnam ala 1975 all over again.

There is not a bomb that has ever been created which could destroy an idea. I suspect, if history is any indication, that these wars will only serve to insure that their side will continue to grow to hate us even more in the next generation. In reality all we will ever see from all of this nonsense is more enemies, more dead Americans, and richer bankers and military suppliers. (as it always has been)

Iraq was a failure in every way it could fail. Nothing worked. Not one thing and the people, conservatives, who cheer leaded us into the war got everything wrong in Iraq.

Those people should be so discredited and humiliated.

Anyone who favored that Iraq war should just sit down and shut up cause they have proven to know nothing.

Yet the loudest voices are the same voices that got everything wrong in Iraq, who cheer leaded us into this war, which led to the creation of ISIL.

It has little to do with how we train and lead them.

If we make ourselves the largest and richest employer in the area, as we did in Viet Nam and Iraq, of course we can get men to work for us, as soldiers and anything else we will spend money on. But *like* us and support our agenda - that is a whole other ball of wax.

we all know that they will be emboldened and attack the US on our soil again, and this time we might lose more than the world trade center and part of the pentagon. these guys want world domination, and they want to set up a caliphate, and they want a one world religion, based on islam and you will will be given the choice of convert to islam or die infidel.
Completely hyperbolic. There's no validity to your opinion whatsoever.

That's all conjecture.

The comparisons with Vietnam do not hold water. How many Vietnamese blew themselves up on American soil? How many came here, years after the war ended to take revenge in anyone's name? Japan was a similar case. They lost the war, surrended and moved forward.
Fighting terror is complicated but it can be done. Recently the Sri Lankan government won the war against the separatists. The Brits with far less resources destroyed the Mau Mau in Kenya in the 50-60s.
With every terrorist group the key is identifying who supports it and cutting off their supply lines. Today, most world terrorism is supported by countries like Iran, Qatar and some Saudi Sheiks. Pakistani intelligence is also a source for Afghan Taliban.

Not interested in talking partisan politics on this topic.

It's irrelevant.

The Mau Mau is nothing compared to what we're talking about now. In Africa, you can find people to betray each other.

Defeating something like an insurgency or terrorist group requires inside information and people willing to turn on the terrorist groups.

And the Mau Mau didn't have deep pockets either.

This ain't THAT!

Sure, fighting terror can be done, but can it be won?

What have the last 13 years told you?
