'whoever created ISIS' is the West, so I guess we needs to take care of it. Not that we invented ISIS, but we plowed the field, planted the seeds and watered them - now ISIS is in full bloom.
The 'plowing' occurred when the 2 dimwits, Bush & Cheney, toppled the one man who kept that region under his iron fist, Saddam Hussein; the 'seeds' were planted when the West installed an Iraqi leader who aggravated the Shia-Sunni divide, while taking billions in US aid; the seeds were 'watered' when the West decided to give millions in aid to the 'moderate' rebels in Syria, in order to do Turkey's behest and topple a moderate leader, and hand it over to Al Qaeda and worse.
We didn't seem to care much when the Christians were being slaughtered, but when the US interests in Erbil were threatened we took action. If the US interests in Baghdad are threatened, especially the airport and military base, we may see ground troops because the Iraqi soldiers can't seem to fight much. Erbil was a success because the Kurds knew how to fight.
Outside of just protecting our interests, we need to go in and help the Syrian Kurds since we, in effect, are responsible for their slaughter. We also need to arm the Christian militias, so they can protect their own neighborhoods.
"Islamic State would not exist without Western help and support by the Arabic Gulf States, and Turkey.
Sanction and to punish powers that supporting Islamic State, arm those that have been fighting the terrorists for years, the Syrian army."
The Arabs states are begging for the US to send in troops to fight ISIS. Well, what the hell are THEY doing? It's in their own damn backyard! Yes, I do want US troops on the ground because they are the only ones who seem to have the courage to fight, with the exception of the Kurds (men and women). The Christians would sure as hell fight, but they are not allowed to possess weapons apparently.
Turkey wants us to fight against Assad, not ISIS. They don't even want to let us use their airbases. And why isn't ISIS attacking Turkey... because they are on the same side.
I've been saying in these threads all along that Sunnis are generally not going to fight Sunnis for Iraq, and I've seen little evidence that the Iraqi Sunnis are eager to see ISIS leave.
I'd rather not see US troops in the area, because that's going to be a war lasting at least 30 years and more likely a century. But if the US does go, it should be only to bolster the Kurds in their areas.
Vietnam should have taught the US not to try rescuing people who don't want to be rescued.
Our problem is that all those oil-rich countries beg for our help and since our oil-heavy economy relies so much on their products, we're put between a rock and a hard place. Allow the Middle East to destabilize because of groups like ISIL and watch oil prices shoot through the roof or engage in military conflict and spawn more terror groups. It's a double-edged sword that, in my opinion, is only best solved by relinquishing our dependency on foreign oil.
When we invaded Afghani there were Taliban charging American tanks on horseback armed with nothing more than an AK-47. The Iraqi men NEVER had balls, not even during Desert Storm. They did the exact same thing then except for those who were too afraid to run

One of the reasons ISIS is spreading so fast in Sunni areas of Syria and Iraq is these people have lived under a reign of terror by successive Syrian and Iraqi governments for decades. By fighting ISIS we the United States of America is picking up the stench left behind by the Assads Bashir and Hafez and the long reign of Saddam and other Baathist thugs who have run that nation since the 1950s.

The Iraqi Sunnis didn't have a huge problem with Saddam, and many of the Iraqi Baathists are fighting in ISIS in Iraq. Or rather, they have less problem with ISIS than they had with the al Maliki government.
