Again, the isolation was excessive. Asking her to abide by an in home quarantine is not. Many other health care workers have quarantined themselves after being exposed. What makes her think she is so darn special?
And for months health care workers have been volunteering in the affected countries, then going home and have not been quarantining themselves. And not one case of Ebola has been transmitted by those volunteers. It's not that she thinks she is so darn special. It's that suddenly the American public, who seems to think that Ebola is transmitted like the flu, is trying to foster a sense of security, a false sense of security, at the expense of these returning healthcare workers. And she's saying that the protocol that's worked so well that NOT ONE CASE of a returning volunteer infecting someone has been recorded, is the protocol she is willing to follow.
She is sending a message that she is not infected and is a citizen of the United States and as such has the right to live freely. You were talking not complex....right?
Possibly yes, possibly no, hence the call for a 21 day quarantine.
And so we take it at her word she's self monitoring. She also said she doesn't present any health risk to anyone - so why should she bother self-monitoring? She clearly decides what is appropriate for her to do and not do - notwithstanding what anyone else has to say.
Because SHE understands how this virus works. She doesn't present any health risks to anyone. She doesn't have any symptoms at this time. That means no health risk. She's self-monitoring because even though she's not sick right now, she could become sick during the incubation period. She's following the WHO guidelines that hundreds and hundreds of returning volunteers have followed. And there's not a single case of a person who followed those guidelines making another person sick. NOT A SINGLE CASE.
The WHO guidelines work. Politicians are trying to fix something that ain't broken. For political reasons. Not because the science says they should.
If the media would leave her alone and go home, she'd be quarantined in that house out in the country.
He neighbors will avoid her for a few weeks.
It's a media circus to distract from the upcoming elections.
Was just watching CNN and according to their report, the state offered to not pursue any quarantine order if she would just agree to stay out of the crowded public spaces. That would mean she could hike, bike, leave her home but not go on public transport or in crowded public spaces. She rejected this. That pretty much tells me everything I need to know about her as that proposal does follow Doctors Without Borders guidelines, the organization she volunteered for. She's more interested in making a political point now.
No order has been served to Nurse Hickox. NO ORDER.
I didn't know an order has to be served directly to someone to get them to comply. Perhaps legally that's the case. I don't know I'm not a lawyer. I would think an order passed at the state level was binding by the fact it was passed. If that's the case, and it's not enforced/someone isn't arrested by not following the order, than yes, it's as good as useless.
"Symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure to Ebola but the average is 8 to 10 days."
My understanding is she's still under the 21 day side? If so, therefore, we can't know if "she is not infected".
Infection is not the issue. If a person has cancer, you don't quarantine them because they're sick. You quarantine someone because they are contagious. If they aren't contagious, you have no reason to quarantine someone. She's NOT contagious.
