AIDS and HIV are human diseases, not isolated to homosexual men alone. In reality, one could say that the only safe blood donor would be a lesbian, they have far fewer STD's then any group, gay, straight or bi. It is surprising how many people are still ignorant of the reality of AIDS and that it is not just gay men who can get it and many straight people are promiscous too.

I still don't know where the blood that helped saved my life many years ago came from. I wish I had a name to thank them.....

Gay, straight, male, female, white, black.......

It didn't matter.....I'm still here.

Why when the person has to answer or they do not take. Just as the HIV question or aids .There are also several other reasons not to take blood. Remember even with testing people have gotten illnesses thru transfusions. That is why pre-storing your own blood is very popular now with elective surgeries.

Would gay blood change your DNA? Would you have a higher potency to have homosexual children (assuming the gay blood is not AIDS infected).

Would gay blood make you bi-sexual?

Based on Transmission of HIV by Blood, Blood Products, Tissue Transplantation, and Artificial Insemination the data shows that only three transfusion recipients in 2003 are known to have become HIV infected by transfusion of HIV antibody-negative, p24 antigen-negative, and HIV NAT-negative blood from two different blood donors (among 25 million donations). The risk was deemed 1 in 1.3million units in 2003 - I have a feeling that we have advanced in the past decade to make that risk even slimmer.

Since 1999, the window where HIV could not be detected was 11 days. 11 days. Those of you who are quoting a month (or more - which has never been the case since testing began) are willfully ignorant. You have had 15 years to get up on the science!

If you refuse homosexual blood, you have to refuse ALL blood donations. It's you risking your life, not me.
Your numbers reflect the situation as it is now where homosexual men can't donate. The ban works, apparently. There is no good health reason to lift it. It is all about political correctness. We should not forget that.

Seriously many people need blood transfusions and not everyone is O positive. My daughter is O- . Not many have that blood type so the more people who can donate the better.
