They have trade relations with the entire world except for the US and they are still in the 1950s?

One of the things that killed off the Soviets were access to Adidas sneakers, Playboy magazine and Levi's. People don't like it when their government gets in the way of them making a better life. Embargoes make excellent excuses for tinpot dictators. Once the Cubans get access to 4G networks and iPads and Toyotas, hey'll eb less inclined to the current regime's policy of shared misery.

Us dumb Americans will be giving Castro the money he needs to prop up his regime that before today was within a 5 years of it's downfall from within.
Why not state 5 weeks, seeing as you're effectively making it up?

One country has a pretty bad human rights record, represses protesters, has way too many people in jail, and is ruled by a handful of people.

And the other is Cuba.

Castro is 88 years old.

Perhaps the admin is positioning for life after Fidel.

They have a lot to gain, we are gaining nothing when we had the upper hand in negotiations.

It would be like having the winning ticket for 50 million and only getting 5 million when you turned it in.

How long do you think it will take before American companies, who have moved off shore already, start eyeing up Cuba as the next low-wage slave labour market lusting for jobs and blue jeans.

Good bye Taiwan, Bangladesh and China....... hellooo Cuba.

Imagine a Cuban's chagrin when he drives to work in a 1953 Buick and when he gets there, he's busily employed building a 2016 Buick he can't begin to repair himself if he manages to actually buy one.

I'd rather be able to go down to my local cigar shop and buy a true churchill length Cuban Cohiba.
Are they really that good? I was just content smoking dried mint. It was like my cigar substitute minus the tobacco.

I can't answer that. But now is no time to be lifting an existing one. It undermines US credibility, and is a slap in the face to Cubans in this country with families back home.

Oh, Please the US has "supported" quite a few questionable countries/characters over the years. And that started way before Obama.

How so?
Now they can go visit their relatives freely, without restriction. Biggest worry is another flood of cubans wanting to come to America.
