She was not just some IRS lawyer, she headed the division that was in charge of tax exempt organizations. It is one of only four major divisions at the IRS. If there was a top ten people at the IRS she is in there somewhere. Until it's determined who was responsible for this whether it's Lerner or someone above her this investigation has to continue.

Don't you remember? It was an isolated incident, done completely by some low level pawn sitting in an office in Ohio.

Except that it wasn't...

One simple and pivotal fact is indisputable: The IRS admitted that it unfairly targeted conservative groups.

Regardless of your political affiliation or how you feel about the specific groups in question, the fact that this was done at all should scare the poop out of you. Remember, even if you dislike the groups they did it to a few years ago, "your guy" isn't always going to be the one in power. Do you REALLY want the precedent to be set that incumbent political campaigns can use the power of the IRS to quash the opposition? Really??? 'Cuz you know that everyone's going to do it, don't you? If you let it happen now, you're giving your tacit (and in some cases, explicit! ) permission to all future administrations to do it again, and again, and again. ALL OF THEM - regardless of which party is in power.

Get it now?

To those who got their jollies about it happening this time, good for you. You got to feel good about the united states government illegally and immorally using its power to crush the first amendment rights of your political opponents. Not sure why you'd feel good about that, but you made it exceptionally clear that you did. So I'm happy for you - you got a free laugh at the nation's expense. Now, the joke's over. Now, act like the adults you claim to be and start riding your representatives to complete a thorough, fair and honest investigation of this. It can't happen again. To anyone.

ETA:

Consider one other thing. "Watergate" is considered to be one of the biggest political scandals in our history. A president resigned over it, to avoid the embarrassment of impeachment. It was a Big Deal. And what was it? One campaign breaking into the offices of another campaign to gain knowledge of their campaign plans.

In this incident, we have politicians using the power of the IRS to silence their political dissenters. Citizens were refused their first amendment rights, required to breach private contracts and were outright harassed, for no legitimate reason.

Which is the bigger crime?

The conduct of the IRS was awful and their response has been pathetic. They'd barbecue any lowly taxpayer who claimed all his records were gone because his hard drive crashed.

However, there isn't any evidence of a White house connection.

There is in fact a connection in that the IRS is a part of the Treasury Dept, which answers to the Treasury Secretary, who answers to the POTUS. This all happened on the watch of President Obama, yet no heads rolled, no answers were demanded. The dog that did not bark is the connection.

Thanks for a very good rolling laugh. Your so funny. Think I will also plead the damn fifth when I have something to hide. The Fudging IRS is not innocent just another culprit doing the dirty deeds for certain politicians.
The IRS were a bunch of pathetic losers, who you could see right thru to their lies.

Lerner the ***** lied so easily, probably people above her responsible also. If the shoe were on the other feet, you would be singing another tune, and you all damn know it. The way some of you are on this forum, you know that you would want the truth to come out, you ain't fooling no one. Somewhere there is a top brass, that knows the answers.

Couldn't have said it more clearly.

LMAO...there's no connection, so you're just gonna invent one.

The ankle bone is connected to the leg bone, the leg bone is connected to the knee bone, the knee bone is connected to the thigh bone...etc, etc..

Personally, I think it`s time to take away the power of the president to issue pardons.

Lois Learner and all her co-conspirators know they can stonewall, lie and destroy evidence without consequence as long as Obama has a last day in office to issue pardons.

If they haven't finished the investigation then Issa shouldn't be releasing anything. But that has been the sad pattern of Issa's investigation; partial releases of out of context communications.

In 1974, the Republicans didn't have the power to help Nixon.

But the record shows that they damn sure tried to.
