I was 17 and had a Chevy Camaro, I didn't buy it for the gas mileage, which at the time was about a dollar a gallon.

Presidents don't have any control over the price of oil. Sorry, but this isn't a socialist or communist country.

I never once argued we should cease all oil consumption. I just think we use too much and are dependent on it like a drug.

Don't be naive as to think because oil is the preferred source of power for manufacturing that alternative power can't be generated. If only big oil lobbyists would get out of the way, we could use solar. Solar will provide us a good 5 billion years worth of power. The problem is, the sun is accessible to every land-bearing organism on planet Earth. If everyone can get a piece of sun, capitalists (the "1%) can't profit off of it..
It wasn't where I live today. It also isn't right now since it is night time. If I had a solar powered car I would be stuck at home.

I'm tired of "conservatives" worshiping at the altar of big business. Thanks big oil? For all of the handouts and sweetheart deals we give them gas damn well should be cheap. As someone who considers myself a conservative I'm tired of corporatist garbage like the OP being associated with conservatism. As a conservative I detest big government and big business as I see them in an incestuous relationship with each other. Take a look at the billions of dollars that flow freely between Wall St. and big business and D.C., and the revolving door of appointments and jobs.

Americans have basically bought the corporatist lies hook, line, and sinker. Conservatism, a political ideology with a wealth of intellectual and philosophical thought has been ravage in America as it has now become associated with military aggression, Wall St./big business, "free" trade, anti-science, anti-environmentalism, and hardline Evangelical Christianity. The conservative vision of a Jeffersonian republic is dead.

That's fine, you are free to avoid any product of "big business". Don't own a car or buy oil or gas. Don't have electricity in your house (after all, energy companies are "big business". Don't own a smart phone (or any phone for that matter). All-you guessed it, big business. Oh, that computer you're typing on-better ditch it. Oh, want to eat? Agriculture is one of the biggest businesses in the country.

I'm sick of ignorant liberals constantly bashing business, while understanding squat about it. They seem to think everything they consume grows on trees and delivers itself to the supermarket or WalMart all shrink wrapped and ready to go for them. I for one would like to see business thrive in this country. I like what businesses offer, in the form of products, jobs, tax revenue and yes, a steady increase in my 401k. Unlike most liberals I don't see anything romantic about the though of living in a cave and picking nuts and berries.

Don't forget deodorant, toothpaste, qtips, soap for dishes and body, dishes of any material, light bulbs, nails, hammers, saws (manual and power from various sources), the lumber, concrete, concrete, cmcs, wash cloths, towels, shoes, socks, bottled water, caffienated awake drinks, on and on and on. Most of these can be made by individuals, or small artisans, but the the standard of living has to be adjusted to accomodate the labor and time intensive nature of a subsistence lifestyle. Fine for some, not most.

The fact is the Saudis have more to do with the current low prices than "big oil".
I thank the 109th Congress and President Bush for taking the power regulate fracking away from the EPA.

Wow!!

There is a lot of liberal whining going on.

Come to think of it, that's all they ever do.
