I would like to see welfare as we know it ended.

It should be a safety net, nothing more, a very limited time for one. Able bodied people should not be encouraged to lay around.

I can see welfare if someone has a very low IQ, has severe physical limitations. Otherwise no.

I would like to see all such policies created by the Federal Government struck down by the Supreme Court as Unconstitutional. If States wish to burden their citizens with Charity laws that is their right.

I wouldn't take the children away, unless there was abuse of some kind. I wouldn't call them "Poor farms" but I would call them "Life Enhancement Retreats." Give people a hand up, and limit crowding. Provide some clean industries work based on ability. Adhere to the rules. Not a resort, and not a prison, but an opportunity to get the wind back into your sails, and proceed with your lives. Drug/alcohol testing mandatory. You mess up, you are escorted out through the gates. No religious pressure, but optional. Not a breeding farm.

Yes to that. It should be at a state or local level.

1. I would have the absent parent be held more responsible for paying for their own kids and if they aren't paying or working it off the state should pay the amount to support the kids and make the absent parent pay it back (Why should the parent with the kids struggle while the other takes advantage of the system)....Example....Man works under the table....gets welfare....has 5 kids (2 with ex wife, 1 with someone who bailed, and 1 with a girl who is pregnant with the 5th) 3 different mothers....this man is not being investigated for welfare fraud (Yes it was reported) not being forced to pay not being put in Jail for not paying etc....also owes one county $20,000 in back support, owes the mother of the first 2 kids $9,000 in back support....this guy is getting away with it and they do nothing.

So my suggestion (For people who are not working to pay child support) for this is yes make the absent parent work state jobs cleaning up roads paving them, cleaning up trash, building a wall between here and Mexico, and whatever else they hire people to do for the state that is grunt work...make them wish they had a job and were paying for their kids the first time. Have the money they earn ALL OF IT go to paying for the support of their kids (especially if they owe back support and are not paying current as court ordered)

2. Raise the poverty level or pay for the housing (make the HUD list shorter or at least help all single parents and let the couples fend for themselves) and nothing else. Make it easier for single parents to find work get hired and keep their jobs. Like have welfare based apartments or houses built by the dead beat parents at a very low cost and base it on the income the parent has after taxes are paid not before....

3. When someone is already on welfare after they have had their 4th or 5th kid require sterilization as soon as possible. (I know sounds unfair, but if they can't afford 3 kids or 4 kids what makes them think they can afford to have another) Mexican families are a prime example. They move into the US have tons of kids, take all jobs, get free health care without a birth certificate...the list goes on and on and on...why isn't there illegal immigrant reform????

4. Offer Jobs in government or welfare that don't require a degree for these struggling single parents. Give someone else a chance to prove themselves and that they are worthy of the training and pay.

5. Food Stamps should be increased, to feed a family of 2 Mother and daughter for example the max amount is $323.00 a month. Try $500 a month for food....food runs out quicker than people imagine and it is more expensive than it used to be. Nothing is cheap now...and $323 a month does not cover it...They should also have vouchers for Toilet paper, toothpaste, and essentials like that, maybe even cleaning supplies...(CPS comes to your house and it is not clean and they expect you to be able to afford cleaning supplies that cost anywhere from $100 to $200 in 2 months time.)

Until we help people that need it, they will never climb out of the hole they are in because there is no way to unless they are getting the help they need and the support from this country that they need.

I think that we would not have as many homeless families or kids in the system if something could be done and soon.

For goodness sake, here is what I'd like to see the reality that welfare was reform 17 years ago, and the name was changed to TANF. An acknowledgment that there is a work requirement, a 5 year max lifetime benefit cap, and that the number of people on welfare has plummeted.

Yet in thread after thread with conservatives usually who are so upset about welfare in 2013, they know nothing about anything about welfare reform, the work requirement, etc and so on. It has only been the law for the last 17years, how long does reality take to spread to conservatives?

I don't care what you call WELFARE, it's still living off the labor of others. If you get welfare you should be shamed.

Greed is taking something you did not earn.

Allow short term welfare only. Take people on long term welfare (well all welfare recipients actually) and put them into job training programs where they can learn some skills and help them find a job.

The best way to help people sometimes is to help them stand on their own feet. Sort of "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a life time".

Exception to this are the disabled. They need to be taken care of for obvious reasons.

I don't see why this is a controversial or complex issues. It's pretty clear to me.
