Basically...keep people occupied, and with hope, and they are much less likely to go follow some nutcase.

Well from all the videos they've posted they could get jobs as "butchers" in various countries.
I'm sure the US will financially support this and go to great efforts to find them jobs..maybe even bring them all over here and let them get work permits like the illegals.

It's not necessarily poverty, but relative poverty. If everybody is poor (India) you really don't know anything else. But if a subgroup is poor and has less opportunity compared to the larger population they belong to, well that's where problems arrive. Think black Muslims in Europe, Somali-Americans, Chechens. It's the same idea for gang violence involving minorities in urban areas. Substitute jihadism for piracy and you remove the emotions I think most people who are honest with themselves can assess the situation. Why do Somalis commit piracy? Because there is NOTHING ELSE for them to do to make a legitimate living.
ISIS are near the town where our marines are. What will Obama do if our soldiers are captured and beheaded on camera? He won't let them fight to save themselves so will he let them die? How about his, "we leave no one behind"?
I heard the soldiers going over to Iraq now pretty much consider themselves sitting ducks. I agree you don't go to war with your hands tied but that is what Obama wants now.

I dont know about you, but during the great depression I was out of work for almost a year. I had unemployment, I had my savings, and I had hope. In fact, most Americans did. So what exactly is your point?
