"When the GOP-controlled Senate bent to Democratic demands to fund the Department of Homeland Security, effectively undercutting conservatives who were willing to allow the agency to shut down until Obama backed down, there was talk of Senate GOP leaders returning to the immigration issue to find new ways to thwart Obama’s orders. But few within the GOP expect any kind of immigration debate in the Senate in the foreseeable future."

Immigration reform looks dead in this Congress - Burgess Everett and Seung Min Kim - POLITICO

Just as suspected, there will be no immigration reform forthcoming from this Republican Congress. They are all talk, but when it comes right down to it, they lack the courage to attempt to disenfranchise the fastest growing segment of the electorate. The Tea Party has been had again by the establishment GOP.

Disenfranchise illegals? Did you just admit that illegals are voting in this country?

Nope, but it will turn off many Hispanic voters of the legal variety. And the GOP is well aware of this. From the article:

"The inaction on immigration comes as the GOP is trying to improve its standing among Latinos in the 2016 presidential election. An “autopsy” of the party’s problems after the 2012 election warned that Republicans “must embrace and champion comprehensive immigration reform. If we do not, our Party’s appeal will continue to shrink.

Reform advocates were buoyed when the Senate overwhelmingly passed a sweeping bipartisan bill in June 2013. But the measure stalled in the House.

So they lied to get votes. Seems the old saying that the lesser of two evils still being evil holds true.

How many that don't understand (D)'s not holding Obama accountable for his lies will do the same for the (R) leadership here?

First off there is NO reform at all in that bill passed by the Senate.

It's amnesty for the illegals, increase in H1-B quotas and a new Visa for no skilled workers to come here.

Reform, as in "open the borders, let everyone in, and give them money"? Uh, no.

Hilarious - thwart orders. You do understand that the president has no right to give those orders? He runs things, period. Congress creates law.

Why is reform needed?

Kick out those that violate black letter law.

That's all the reform that's needed.

I've asked this a hundred times, I've never gotten much of an answer. Besides "people are in the shadows" or some such business.

There never was any "reform" bill in the making. It was simply amnesty. Disenfranchise the fastest growing segment of the electorate? Hispanic citizens? Aren't they obligated to respect our immigration laws just like everyone else is or are our politicians suppose to thumb their noses at our immigration laws just for them in exchange for their votes? Is that the way this country should operate? It isn't only the Teaparty that is obligated to respect our immigration laws and demand enforcement of them but every single American in this country is obligated to do so. That's a bad thing?
