Plus homeowners do not typically pay off their mortgage years after blowing up their home. That would be quite an unusual situation.

Seattle has a rather dynamic, robust, terrific economy, etc. Whats the point if you are a conservative bringing this up? Seattle isn't Glendale, Phoenix, Mesa, Surprise or anywhere else. Even the people who voted against Century Link and Safeco now support the two stadiums..this isn't 1976. Seattle is one of the great American cities and deserves every accolade they have coming. By the way even the people in Tri-Cities 200 miles from Seattle voted to support Century Link. Interesting conservative Tea Party types have a lot in common with the granola crowd in Seattle.

Ponderosa, I've been in Scottsdale that time of year. Half full or less hotels are the norm right before and after Spring Training. Getting 1/2 the room rate. That is 75% less tax collected.

You have been smoking too much of the legal product...
You couldn't be more wrong, you might want to get out of Freemont a little more and talk to the normal folks.

Thanks to unexpectedly strong tax revenue from a hotel tax, King County (Seattle) will finally pay off the cost of building the KingDome pro sports stadium in 2015. Construction started in 1972, 43 years ago. The KingDome design was based on the eggshell, one of nature's strongest shapes. The architect said that it would last 1000 years. It was demolished 25 years after it opened, because the pro sports owners wanted new tax-funded venues that could generate more revenue, especially from corporate luxury box clients.

Since 1995 we have built three more tax-funded pro sports stadiums, and there is an ongoing effort to build another new NBA stadium since the Sonics left town, 13 years after their new digs were deemed inadequate.

The state cannot find the money to care for the mentally ill, but seems to have unlimited money for bread and circuses.
Let the voters determine where revenues are spent.

I personally think the constant expenditures for bigger and better arenas is insane, but it seems that is what the people want.

And the end of mortgage you have a house. It's not a great comparison anyway as it's essentially a business and should generate revenue at some point.

Seattle never really supported either of the stadiums. The support came from the cities that ring Seattle like Bellevue, Issaquah , North Bend, Renton, Lynwood, Federal Way, SeaTac, etc. Even the Tri-Cities 200 miles from Seattle supported Century Link. Fremont didn't support the stadiums.

I bet you drive over the floating bridge every day and think everything is free...

No it isn't it was voted down by the public. The politicians then did an end around and passed it anyhow. Seattle and Olympia are fool of smug arrogant sleaze bags who think they know better about what is good for everyone else. They hurtling headlong into oblivion. They cant get to the state that Ca is in quick enough.

And why would I do that?
Don't even get me started on the transportation mess in the area.. again they don't want it to get better, they want people out of their cars. The whole Greater Puget Sound are aims to be a Socialist Utopia, and they will get what they deserve.

The bonds to build Safeco Field were retired in 2011 and now the Kingdome bonds are retired. As a Tea Partier what are you complaining about? The bills have been paid.
