MMM05, I have little doubt the prosecution isn't going to deal. The videotape is like a full house in cards. Slager's goose is cooked, and this is as easy a case for the prosecution as the Boston bomber.
The prosecution will adjust based on what charge the evidence can support. But will this guy get off? I could be wrong, but I definitely do not think so. Probably manslaughter with a sentence of 10+ years.
But it is important to get all the evidence in before a conclusion is reached, which of course is the function and purpose of a trial.
Wrong, Spartacus. You deal when you lack evidence. This video for the ex cop is horrific, not deniable, and the vehicle cam vid did not help him.
He'll try to deal, but the prosecution should not be listening. You deal solely with a weak hand.
I did not say the prosecutor would "deal." I said they would adjust to the evidence. Whatever the maximum charge is that the law supports, I expect the prosecution will pursue and very likely get that. Which if I had to take a wild guess at this point, will be a manslaughter charge.
There have been links to SC statutes, and some murder charges there do not require premeditation. Either way, I suspect at minimum, he'll be in jail past the birth of his 1st grandchild.

I think you're right. It won't make people happy.
Everybody saw what sure looks like murder,
but the fact that there was a scuffle involved
prior to the shooting, I think precludes 1st degree.

In the video. When Slager caught up to Scott they fought over the Taser. Then Scott ran off. I think that Slager thought that Scott had the Taser rather than it having dropped on the ground.
BTW, SC law allows the death penalty for murder w/o needing to prove pre-meditation.
