When I was younger, "thugs" were primarily related to mafia henchmen, and nazi/commie henchmen, or common steet villains. While these "thugs" still exist to some extent, the majority of individuals nowadays who exhibit "thuggish" behavior are criminal black males - gang members and the like. To me this is not a term that describes a race, but instead a type of malevolent behavior. I don't see this as a "racist" term, but rather an "if the shoe fits............."
Yep, I do not have a problem with that. What are we going to call thugs, "Law Breakers"?

Its just modem Political Cra------.

I think since most of the riots and crimes are caused by Black offenders lately many are connecting thugs with blacks. Or the new one which I never heard before Hood Rats.

Lets call it foe what crime is. Its wrong and those who commit crimes against innocent citizens and private property should be handled.

Default The word thug

I'm starting to get the impression the word thug is being used as a specific designation for black people, up till now the word thug IMO covered a wide range of people from the local bully to mafia strong arm types to biker gang types and gangs in general. Seems the word is going the same way as the word gay which was a word when i was growing up that used to designate a happy disposition but has since been hijacked to mean any one homosexual. Calling some one a thug just because they are black is an unethical course of action that speaks to the general erosion of the moral fabric of America.

Thug is the new, politically correct N-word. No two ways around it.

I think it's usually pretty clear when it's being used as a more palatable racial slur.

Thug is not limited to one color or skin or race.
There are Thug's in every walk of life.
It is NOT the politically correct N word and I seriously doubt there are more Thugs of one race over the other.

Why is it necessary to continue the entire race baiting thread starting?
Is there nothing else one can think of to start a thread about.

This is the definition of the word Thug:

thug
THəɡ/
noun
noun: thug; plural noun: thugs; noun: Thug
  1. 1.
a violent person, especially a criminal.
synonyms:ruffian, hooligan, vandal, hoodlum, gangster, villain, criminal; Moreinformaltough, bruiser, hardman, goon, heavy, enforcer, hired gun, hood
    "one of Capone's thugs"

  2. 2.
    historical
a member of a religious organization of robbers and assassins in India. Devotees of the goddess Kali, the Thugs waylaid and strangled their victims, usually travelers, in a ritually prescribed manner. They were suppressed by the British in the 1830s

Do you see anywhere in that definition stating a Thug is black?

Oh goodness, look at that, "one of Capone's thugs", if I remember correctly Capone would be Al Capone and he was a white American Gangster........

Its a forum, threads are started and discussed. Speaking of which you seemed to have entirely missed the point of this topic.

Thug | Define Thug at Dictionary.com

Huh... just learned from the link above the word originated in India. Never knew.

Anyway, I always heard the word to describe a criminal, especially a street criminal who might rob or mug someone. I also think of someone working for "the mob" who does the dirty work. I've also heard it used in regards to dictators... but I'm over 50, so maybe now it's taking on a new meaning? Never thought of it as race or ancestry specific.
