The title belongs to the United States of America and those people alluded to above who were born and live in Alaska are American citizens.
Their point is that their aboriginal title still holds, because it's never been extinguished via treaty or conquest. It was the US gov't that originally recognized their aboriginal title, but it forgot to extinguish it, lol! Minor oversight. When oil was discovered in Alaska in the 60's, the government was in a pickle, because it knew Alaska Natives had a fair claim to the land. Oil exploration and development couldn't proceed until that Native claim was settled. So the Alaska Native Claims Act was invented and foisted upon the tribes in 1971. The group pushing their cause at the UN should have covered that part of the history. Still, they have a very interesting point, though they bark up the wrong tree a bit, in dragging Russia into it.
Essentially you are saying that Hawaiians in 1959 were ignorant and not qualified to vote for their own destiny.
That's not me saying it. I was quoting a statement made by a Hawaiian organization. My takeaway from that was that most Hawaii Natives didn't vote on the measure, for various reasons.
But this state could become its own country and rely on tourism and agriculture to a large degree for its economy, and survive secession.
How did that work out for the South from 1861-1865? Keep in mind that in 2015 the ability to construct nuclear, biological, or chemical weapons (i.e. weapons of mass destruction) is in the reach of anyone who has the knowledge and intitative.
They did raise the issue... its called the Ku'e petition... why did they have to hide it?

huh...you are talking 1897....60 years before the vote.....3 times have a statehood vote been put up for Puerto Rico ...they CHOOSE to not be a state, and are satisfied being a territory....the fact for hawaii is back in 1897 maybe they didn't want it....but in 1959 they certainly did
the FACT is Hawaii, VOTED to become a state... by a landslide 94% to 6%...they VOTED NOT to be isolated by race..
and it would be stupid to classify Hawaiians as Indians... Hawaiian are Polynesian originating from Tahiti

so.... the voter TURNOUT was 35%.... still 94% said statehood over non-statehood independence
heck most of our POTUS elections only have 50% turnout....1996 bill Clinton won re-election very easily... but we only had 49% voter turnout (49% of ELGIBLE voters decided to vote at all)

Precedent has been set that the courts will overturn election results. Not unlike a school board holding an election on issues and not liking the outcome, simply ignore the voters. That is the case in NJ at least

if you get 60% of the turnout...it is a landslide...
it doesn't matter if only 100 people vote..the MAJORITY of those that BOTHERED to vote have the say

the fact is 94% of the voters that did vote overwhelmingly voted for state hood
