The rep of the Catholic Church is pretty much mud in 2015. What I'm trying to say is I trust them as far as I can throw them and I was raised "Catholic".

Climate change: it happens all the time. Some of my older friends told me the big worry in 1970 was another Ice Age was getting ready to hit.

Nononseguy, while I enjoy your comments and usually agree with you, I fear you have a common, but distorted view of the Catholic Church.

Just a few notes:

Catholicism is based on both the Old and New Testaments. The Mass is built around both. The Mass goes through the Bible, taking stories and quotations, from beginning to end, over three year periods. The sermon (homily) always relates to a biblical story within this system. One of the beauties of this system is that one can go to any Catholic Church, and still receive the same teaching for that day's Mass.

As Catholics, we are encouraged to read the entire Bible, with the understanding that the prophets spoke of the coming of Jesus Christ throughout the Old Testament, and with the understanding that the first covenants with Adam and Eve, with Abraham, with Moses, etc., were the foundation of Jesus Christ sacrificing Himself for the sins of the human race.

I could go on and on, but suffice to say, Catholicism is Bible-based!

Two other points:

The Catholic Communion (Eucharist) is a metaphysical-mystical ritual, which builds one's belief/faith in Jesus Christ.

The Origin of Catholic Priests (and the Catholic Church) are the Apostles. For more info, read "The Acts of the Apostles."

It seems many of the countries where the RC church is losing power and respect are getting a whole lot better.

So you get to decide who is Christian and who isn't? Better leave that to the man upstairs (if he exists). Mormons claim to be Christians and who am I or you to say differently.

As long as we all agree that nononsenseguy and others like him don't get to decide, I'm good with that.

No, he is a well schooled and trained Jesuit who has fully accepted his vows and really accepts Christ's teachings especially the ones about being ones brother or sisters keeper, that GOD not Man is the master of Creation, that it is a great sin against HIM to harm or destroy that creation, and that only the meek and humble will have a place in Heaven.

If you believe that our Earth has intrinsic evident worth that should be passed down to our progeny, you are a Conservative in the best sense of the word. For conserve, conservation and conservative all have the same language root. I wish American conservatives would understand this !
