actually when I was poor, one of the things provided to me was money to buy newspapers with in order to help me find a job.

I actually found one that way.

But the comparison is like comparing cars to apples. IE the two are not comparable at all.

I love how people act like all that was missing in some kids life was access to "education" on the internet. Like some poor white kid in West Virginia is all of the sudden gonna get internet access crack his knuckles and go "Now, lets get my thoughts and ideas about the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture out there", "But, first I must login to my schools finance site and pay the late fee for keeping this Physics tetxtbook for so long over the summer break, silly me".

Give everybody free access to the internet and computer to do it with for all I care. But don't **** on my leg and tell me it's raining with your fantasy tales about some horny teenage boy all of the sudden getting an "education" on the internet. Yeah, he's gonna google Calculus Tutor's in Nebraska. Please, he'll google cleveland steamer first, then asstastic voyage and whatever else comes across his mind.

Access to education.

Jesus Christ.

With education the phrase. "How will they know where to go if they don't know the way"
pretty well sums it up. Lot's smarter to get them education than send them to prison. They deserve it anyway. They are Americans also.
Bull! Wonder how my generation managed to get to the moon...we didn't even have electronic devices, let alone computer.

Electronic devices have dumbed down several generations now. If not used correctly and at a mature age, they do far more damage then good.

Education has always been and always will be the way to greatness. The internet is part of out lives and refusing it for educational purposes is so stupid. There is so much more educational material on the internet than you can dig up in a library in any inner city neighborhood. ASK ANY COLLEGE STUDENT IF THEY CAN SUCCEED IN COLLEGE WITHOUT THE INTERNET.

Scheduling dr appts
Managing payments, bank accounts, etc.
Teaching their kids about history
Look up things-like how to fix things, how to deal with medical issues, etc etc
applying for jobs-many places ONLY accept applications online.

Seriously, its 2015, this isn't like when we were younger.

Actually in my area there are in fact free computers. I've donated to some of our local charities. Yeah they are old, but they can run a web browser. And I've given about a dozen free ones to people directly.

Heck I can build one that can surf the web brand new for under $100. The reality is though that free computers are common as people like me, and my wife upgrade every 1-2 years. (lately its slowed down to every other year as the benefits of doing so have gotten smaller)
Lol, here is what free internet will be used for when provided.
