This is the pre-election oil/gas smokescreen. Those of us in the industry see it every four years. But I can almost guarantee that your prices are going to go up, up, up in the following months. Followed by the government finally signing off on permits for major drilling and pipeline construction in 2016. (The companies are already gearing up for it...they know the drill!) Then the players in D.C. can say..."Look what we've done. Look at all the work. Look at us trying to bring prices down. Vote for us!" 2016 is going to be a banner production year here in the states (insert reason for it here whether known or unknown as of yet) followed by 2017 which will be like every other inauguration year. No work for those of us in the industry... followed by a couple of mediocre years. Rinse. Repeat.
It will help to kill off the Coal industry some more. We can look forward to GOP candidates trying to get those in Kentucky, Tenn.,Ohio, WV and PA all riled up as there oil barons dump more money into their PACs.
The oil industry is not in competition with the coal industry, the natural gas industry is. The primary use for coal is power generation and industries than need a lot of heat like the cement industry. Other than Hawaii which uses oil for electric generation it's presence is almost non existent. To compete with coal or natural gas it's cost would have reach historic lows.
Can we put you on record for being against the Keystone pipeline?
The Keystone pipeline will provide jobs directly and indirectly. Some short term, some long term. We can debate about how many but undeniably it will create jobs.
It will secure a domestic supply of oil that cannot be interrupted by outside influences.
It will help put pressure on OPEC preventing them from monopolizing the market for long term benefits.
That is probably the three biggest benefits of the Keystone pipeline, other than a possible minor short term price in the drop of oil what benefits comparable to them does Iranian oil you are cheering for provide to us?

But it would interfere with our oil field workers.
Happy day for you. Obama has done more to lower that price of gas than GWB did his entire two terms!
Um.. the price of gas is still about 30% higher than when he was sworn into office..
hahahaha.
