Never mind that, we got to get through the debt ceiling in November. I think Boehner will ultimately say "f-it" and raise the debt ceiling with the help of Democrats (as he has done in the past), but all the kabuki theatre from the tea bag folks may be just enough to get us downgraded on our credit rating. Again. Some people are incapable of learning from their mistakes.

Besides that, with a lunatic representative as Speaker, you can rest assured nothing will ever get passed until either party has a trifecta of POTUS, House and filibuster-proof Senate.

What a joke politics have become in the US.

I favor raising the retirement age to 70.
I don't know where you got the idea that back in the 1930s they designed it for the average person to draw benefits for 5 years. But if you are trying to argue that life expectancy is higher now, except that the people who really depend on Social Security, those in the bottom half of the distribution, aren't living much longer. So you’re going to tell janitors to work until they're 70 because lawyers are living longer than ever.

The other thing is that Social Security has no current problem. Everything detractors predict is decades in the future. So, detractors recommend cut benefits today to avoid cutting benefits at some point in the future.

This was expected to happen. I spoke about it 4 days ago.

I hear Republicans are studying the elderly to see what vitamins and minerals we can extract from them.

Sounds like Boehner is trying to convince Paul Ryan to run for Speaker.

Paul Ryan is probably one who can do a lot of uniting, even across party lines. Unfortunately he says he doesn't want job,

Politics was never intended to be easy. It shouldn't be either.

Yep......Paul over party......

To be fair he probably believes he would have a hard time getting the votes and if he didn't it would really harm any future aspirations.
