Ghetto-ized, marginalized. Many of their ancestors were crippled building the CalTrain rail beds that oblivious white Bay riders take for granted. Anybody for some Takey Outy?

You lost me...Chinatown has been a recognized neighborhood in San Francisco for a very long time, there are no 'cantonese on display'. Chinese merchants profit from tourism but I don't think they feel that they are being taken advantage of.

This thread seems to be missing a link or some form of explanation.

Yes, Chinatown- that's even what the Chinese merchant associations call it, you might complain to them if it offends you. Chinatown San Francisco - The largest chinatown outside of Asia

Isn't that the name of the neighborhood? Portland has a Chinatown and a Jade District. Many cities in this country have Chinatowns, Koreatowns, Japantowns, and so on.

Doesn't make it right. What if someone coined a Nigertown?

Self hating Cantonese Americans can say what they may, and have been browbeaten by white elite. These districts are celebrated in progresive leftist places like SF, Oakland, Boston, Portland, while the whites live in outlying, desegregated districts with more room to breathe.

"Jade District." Are you stereotyping, urbanlife78? Are you saying they're all about jade?

Well if a city had enough people from Niger living in their city, that would make sense. Usually cities that have ethnic neighborhoods is because they have a large population of ethnic groups.

Does Little Italy bother you too?
