Genius, pure genius. Make it more illegal to buy illegal guns from illegal sellers to illegal buyers (hint, that's you, Chicago).

It is already a federal crime to transport any stolen goods across state lines.

The commerce clause cannot apply to the 2nd amendment and arms. Neither can the 10th amendment

500,000 gun crimes every year in the United States. In 9 of 10 gun crimes where the gun was successfully traced, the person who bought it was not the person who used it in the crime. The report also said that 1 in 3 crime guns has crossed state lines, with crime guns traced in New York, New Jersey and Maryland often coming from Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The report concluded that guns are purchased in the legal market and then move into the illegal market, and gun trafficking serves as a pipeline that delivers guns into the hands of criminals.

CLOSING THE IRON PIPELINE
I think you'll find that most gun owners do support closing the iron pipeline. Lets look at what federal laws are broken:
1) Strawman purchase-if you buy a gun for someone (other than as a gift), you are breaking federal law and committing a federal felony.
2) Purchasing a handgun out of state is a federal felony. Regardless of if you are in a "no background check" state and are otherwise legal to own in either state. You can not legally purchase a handgun out of state. It must be shipped to a FFL in your state where you must pick it up after a background check is done.
3) It is a felony for anyone already a convicted felon to own or even touch a gun. Any gun.

Yet all these laws are only very rarely prosecuted. So yes, close the iron pipeline. Prosecute those that are responsible for enforcing the law but who refuse to do so. Why do so many liberals want to keep the iron pipeline in operation.

There is Not a Single Federal Law Defining Gun Trafficking as a Crime

Senator Gillibrand Introduces Bipartisan Bill To Crack Down On The Flow Of Illegal Guns To New York State Through The “Iron Pipeline” And Prevent Gun Violence

According to Latest Federal Data, of the 8,539 Total Firearms Recovered and Traced in New York State in 2013, Nearly 70 Percent Came from Out of State – Yet There is Not a Single Federal Law Defining Gun Trafficking as a Crime Similar Measure Came Two Votes Short of Defeating Senate Filibuster in 2013

A REPUBLICAN: Smart !!

Republican Senator Mark Kirk (R-IL), the Hadiya Pendleton and Nyasia Pryear-Yard Gun Trafficking & Crime Prevention Act of 2015

The trafficking of guns have led to more than 1,300 shootings in Chicago this year,” said Senator Kirk. “In honor of Hadiya Pendleton, we owe it to future generations to put an end to the gun trafficking that plays a huge role in the senseless violence that is taking lives in Chicago and throughout the country every day.”

“The evidence is overwhelmingly clear that states like New York, which has some of the strongest gun laws in the nation, remain vulnerable to illegal guns imported from other states with weaker laws,” said New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman

SECOND ADMENDMENT RIGHTS ARE PROTECTED WITH THIS BILL!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the biggest, most dangerous problems with our nation’s gun laws is that we have have no strong, clear federal statute against gun trafficking. This bipartisan bill will help fix that by making it harder for straw purchasers and shady gun dealers to traffic illegal guns to dangerous people - while protecting the Second Amendment rights of responsible, law-abiding gun owners.”

In 2013, just 10 states supplied nearly half – 48 percent – of the guns that crossed state lines before being recovered in crimes. Together, these states accounted for nearly 23,000 interstate crime guns recovered.

Plenty more to read!

CLOSING THE IRON PIPELINE
This is complete nonsense. I cite the case of Puerto Rico and the US Virgina Islands. Both have very strict gun laws and since they are islands there is no easy access via your bogus "Iron Pipeline" yet both of them have murder rates way higher than the continental US. Just another garbage myth created by anti-gun zealots with no merit whatsoever.

Georgia's Lax Gun Laws Led To Two Fatal Shootings Of NYPD Officers

05/06/2015

NYPD Officer Brian Moore, who was only 25 years old, was shot Saturday while on patrol in Queens. He died on Monday.

In December, less than six months before Moore was shot, two other NYPD officers -- Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos -- were fatally gunned down inside their police cruiser in Brooklyn.

The Taurus Model 85 handgun that Blackwell allegedly used to shoot Moore was one of 23 firearms stolen from a bait and tackle shop in Perry, Georgia, in 2011, NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce told reporters this week.

Similarly, the Taurus semiautomatic handgun that 28-year-old Ismaayal Brinsley used to kill Liu and Ramos in December was from the Arrowhead Gun and Pawn Shop in Jonesboro, Georgia. In 2010, Arrowhead was the fifth-largest source of guns used in crimes across the country. The shop was also the No. 1 source of out-of-state firearms seized by the NYPD in 2009.

About 90 percent of guns used in crimes in New York City come from out of state.)

In 2013, nearly 3,100 guns from crime scenes in other states were traced back to Georgia, according to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The NRA -- which previously gave Deal an “A” rating for his opposition to gun control measures -- did not respond to The Huffington Post's request for comment

The IRON PIPELNE is a Snake wrapping crime with Gun rights

Closing the IRON PIPELINE will cut the heads off many snakes! The NRA lies

You're approaching jojan level of Scot Walker-ness with this IRON PIPELINE thing. Your posts are so annoying and overwrought with emotion, I can't even be bothered to try and learn anything about the subject.

I don't know why you're stuck on this imaginary "Iron Pipeline" bit.. With every item you mentioned, the bottom line is, criminals brought guns into New York/New York City, with very strict gun laws, without properly registering the weapons, which should give you an idea why restrictive gun laws don't work, and they only affect law-abiding gun owners, not criminals.

Don't blame the NRA for what criminals do with guns.
