Excellent speech by President Obama. It is another magnificent speech that no Republican could ever give. He lays it out quite clearly.
1. Republicans in Congress continue to be a cancer on this society. They oppose the President's request for military action on ISIS, precisely because they know that it would be SUCCESSFUL. This has been President Obama's history, as demonstrated when he got Bin Laden. Political survival causes Republicans in Congress to pray that the American public blames the President for inaction on ISIS instead of the real culprit, Congress.
2. 2nd Amendment. ISIS didn't exist in 1791. Time for gun control legislation, so again Congress drops the ball. They're hoping that more Americans are killed, as a sick way to sucker in support for Republicans. By their INACTION, Republicans are killing more Americans than any Islamist group. The President is right. Frankly, with a Republican at the helm, our country is destroyed from WITHIN, while losing the ideological war abroad because of inept Conservative foreign policy.
3. ISIS does not represent Islam. The President made this clear. He also made it clear that racial discrimination and bigotry from the Right cannot stand to scare and isolate our Muslim neighbors and friends in this society, who condemn these acts. He urged Muslims to help in this fight, and their help is part of a comprehensive plan, one which goes over the head of the typical Republican, to win this ideological battle.
We are in an ideological battle with Islamist thugs. This battle can't be won by the Neanderthal diplomacy, narrow-mindedness, bigotry, and blowhard ignorance that defines the right-wing. Kudos to our great President Obama for laying it out tonight.
Calling the terrorists, Islamic Terrorists would be the same a calling the KKK, Christian Terrorists ... neither shares any attributes of their professed religions.
If either committed their horrible crimes in the name of their religion, then it is what it is no matter how anyone wants to slice it or sugar coat it. You can call a mule a horse, but it's still a mule.

I taped and watched it this morning. What a strange dud of a speech. There was nothing new or reassuring , no sense that he understands just how insecure America is feeling under his leadership. He just recycled the same old talking points. I got the feeling he really didn't want to do this, that he was actually annoyed with the public (and Valerie Jarrett?) for forcing him to make the speech. I bet fifteen minutes later he was sitting with a beer in one hand and a smoke in the other watching the Sunday night football game.
You would be wrong about that football game. Exactly 22 minutes after he ended his Oval Office Speech, the Prez and Mrs Prez entered the Kennedy Center for a Gala Performance.
It was a busy,busy,busy night for Obama with several costume changes.
He hosted a White House reception (in Tuxedo) filled with the Rich & Famous Hollywood crowd, then did a quick change for his Lecture to the American people (in suit), then quick change to Tux again and 4 minute drive to the Kennedy Center. Nothing wrong with any of that, he could have told the public not to be too afraid to continue about your daily business - and that he was going to the Kennedy Center right after the speech. I guess that would have been just too Honest for him, probably worried about the Optics of our Party White House.

That fact is lost on them, time and again. Clearly lack of guns isn't the issue, since we currently have more firearms than the entire population of this country.
No, it was Obama who gave birth to ISIS by pulling all American troops out of Iraq instead of forcing a status of forces agreement on the Iraqi government -- which he could have done very easily.
Of course, Obama, the Islamist ISIS supporter, was not interested in doing that.
Instead, he wants to disarm law-abiding American citizens (gun control) and invite tens of thousands of un-vetted Muslims into this country to attack Americans.
Yep, that's Obama.
And the Democrats/liberals/leftists/progressives who support him....
ISIS was born in 2006 in response to Shiites taking control of Iraq.
