How are we the people to maintain a free state, with government in check?
The checks and balances have gone a skew.

The 1st amendment is being leaned upon in todays America like in no other time in the nations history.
The 2nd Amendment started being neutered immediately following the Civil War. It has been stripped of all its glory and ability.
The 4th Amendment has been leaned upon since prohibition and has accelerated in the war on drugs and now this terrorism crisis the government has created.
The 5th Amendment is a conviction now, instead of government finding the truth. Plead the 5th and see the intimidation pushed at you immediately.
The 8th Amendment, has been abused with mandatory sentencing. Long incarceration and death for victimless crimes.(laVoy F.)
The 10th Amendment was taken before the Civil War and was the cause of the Civil War.

What is the definition of:
being necessary to the security of a Free State.

If the freedom & liberty outlined in the Constitution is constantly being treaded upon by an all powerful government, what is necessary to the security of a free State, to maintain the US. Constitution in its full glory???

The right to vote isn't saving the constitution, from those dead set on destroying it all together.

We haven't been free for quite a while because we traded one tyrant 3,000 miles away (King George) for 3,000 tyrants just a mile away (all 3 branches). That is a rough quote from the movie "The Patriot" (the most memorable line). We are delusional to think we are the most free nation in the world. We are our own worst tyrant and we keep doing it to ourselves by tolerating politicians that give lip service to how free we are.

Voting rights away, without amending the Constitution.
The new US government. Where democracy takes rights, that are not theirs to take a vote on.

What is necessary to the security of a Free State.

What do we do, if it is no longer a Free State, but has become a Police State, where taxes are voted on to pay to take liberty by force.

You would think, more people would understand the amendments of the Bill of Rights, so government doesn't take them for they to decide for you.

Bent, if anyone should learn the understanding of the Constitution and the various amendments it is you. I have never met or read anyone who is more consistently wrong when it comes to the Constitution, and please this isn't just because we are sometimes on different sides of the political fence.

Aside from the Federalist Papers, the Constitution there are over 200 years of judicial review establishing as specified by the Constitution what rights exist under the Constitution and which do not. Now I don't agree with the reasoning of many laws or Supreme Court decisions but that's the way the rules were set up and I will abide with them until we find a Constitutionally sanctioned method for changing them.

Ironically, the loudest trumpets for "freedom" are hardcore conservatives--The party that seeks to legislate every aspect of a persons life.

First off Conservative is not a political party.
There are Conservative & Progressives in the Republican party.
There are only Progressives in the Democrat party.

Conservative is a value, that wants government out of the lives of Americans. Government makes laws, and the Progressive values, is government knows best. Bigger and bigger government to legislate every aspect of your life.

So you have both establishment wings of the parties that seek to legislate every aspect of your life. The small segment of Conservatives within the Republican party are trying to stop the government intrusion into liberty. Not legislate it more.

We maintain our freedom with the constant threat upon the govenment to do to it what the Patriots did to the British: overthrow it. Hopefully, that will not become necessary because the elected politicians will do what we sent them to do, but this is becoming less common. I don't think the Founding Fathers expected that a time would never come when the US government would become so corrupted that the people would need to overthow it. That is why they made the 2nd Amendment: to overthrow tyrannies.
