There are a few old racists "individuals" left around the country. Plus, there are people who are ignorant jerks but they come in all flavors and harm all people of every color of skin, every religion and every sexual preference or gender.
So....in reality, NO. Your color does not prevent you from doing anything that anyone can do. Those days are gone. Thankfully!
You'll never get rid of jerks though, you'll just die trying. The jerks hate everyone. You'll never get rid of those who are a little off either. Mental conditions still plague society. But, chin up! Most of America just care about getting paid and bbq.
I'm not denying that racism doesn't exist at all anymore, but it's become a convenient excuse to attach to. It's something everyone is tempted to do...rather than look at what you can do to improve yourself - and your quality of life - you find external things to blame it on.
I think people that hold any group to lower standards and make excuses for them is only enabling that mentality. That's not to say that there's never a real issue anywhere, ever, but the only thing truly stopping anyone from achieving what they want is themselves. I know this from my own excuse making in the past, and I can relate to how real that feels. It was so much more freeing when I decided that I was dealt the cards I have and now it's up to me to make the best of it.
With all of the blame being thrown around with the cop shootings and the Oscars being boycotted. I AM DEFINITELY in denial. People who blame their failures on racial discrepancies are lazy! I heard this one guy say he didn't get a promotion because he had a white boss
I could be wrong but i just don't like when people throw race in the mix of everything.
Well, we still have racial segregation in this country, especially regarding neighborhoods and schools, and we will for the foreseeable future.

There are some racists in every country. There are some trolls in every country. There are things that happen. But it's still far better today than in the past. Especially in the USA, compared to certain other countries. Look at how black people are treated in a lot of Latin American countries.
Here in the USA, nobody is holding anybody back. People have to understand how much opportunity they have, how the world works and that there are likely to be bumps in the road. That starts in the home, and with GOOD teachers.
Black people aren't shot in Latin America because they are black, nor are they systematically discriminated against anymore than in the US.
