Racial Disparity | The Sentencing Project

Wide Racial Divide in Sentencing - WSJ

And you my friend are using VERY BIASED sites as your "source"

Founded in 1986, The Sentencing Project works for a fair and effective U.S. criminal justice system by promoting reforms in sentencing policy, addressing unjust racial disparities and practices.

They have preconceived beliefs, then go about to justify those beliefs.

The WSJ writes an article based from the U.S. Sentencing Commission, no bias there either.

And your 3rd is the NEVER biased ACLU. 'nuff said.

Now, why that's the case is complex, but the outcome is what it is.
That's essentially what I said in my adjacent post.

That's where the term "similarly situated" comes in. Blacks with the similar criminal backgrounds/or lack thereof, as their white counterparts are getting longer prison sentences. They're not comparing LA Gangsta lighting up bystanders with Johnny Suburbs arrested on his first DUI. They're comparing people with like backgrounds and crimes.

In the two years after the Booker ruling, sentences of blacks were on average 15.2% longer than the sentences of similarly situated whites

Inb4, this is a myth, this doesn't really happen, blah blah C-D etc.. etc..

If all it took to have the police not target you as much was to dress differently, why not do it?

I don't believe it's 100% the clothes, it's body language, facial expressions, gestures, and profanity as well.

Is grass green? It's easy to throw the "untouchable" caste in the clink. Since blacks start out with less rights, its a natural step to see them all as potential criminals and sentence them harshly. Its tough being a second class citizen in the first world.

It seems like whenever a Black person kills someone white they will either get a very long sentence or the death penalty.

Like OJ?

WTF? "See them" as potential criminals?

Dear lord, historic racism has put many blacks into poverty situations along with broken homes.

Regardless of race that breeds gang activity and crime.

I think some of you need to better understand the root cause because they're not getting arrested and shot by other gangs because they are black. It's because they are poor. (because they are black.)

We also get stopped much more often than some other races (although we're not the only race targeted).

Even some of the drug laws are designed to target black people more harshly. And then you even have one of the Founders of the Drug Wars stating that the laws are being used to discriminate.

I think there's plenty of evidence there.

From a black man.

So more crack in Detroit is the answer?
