I suspect "the pockets of neighborhoods plagued by gun homicides" have few residents that can even pass a background check to legally purchase a firearm.
CC permits are highest in gang infested areas and safe neighborhoods where retired Police tend to live.
( Chicago PD requires all officers to live in the city. )
Spend time driving main streets in nasty neighborhoods. You will likely notice an acute absence of main stream grocers but no shortage of small businesses selling very high end jeans, shoes, bling, phones, weaves, carry out and day care.
Of course not everyone can afford a gun, regardless of where they live.
It would be much harder for criminals to get guns if they were not available in other states. They would become prohibitively more expensive. There's a difference between driving to South Carolina to buy guns and driving across the Mexican border to buy them. We have a lot of guns in this country because they are legal, not because they are illegal. State laws in NJ don't change that.
It got really hard to get guns in Jamaica after some very strict gun laws were passed in that country. Murder rates surged. Guns were being brought in from other places. And that's an island. We might have alot of guns because they're legal, but murder rates vary from place to place. Vermont. Very lax gun laws. One of the safest(possibly the safest) states you could live in. If gun laws were the issue, Vermont would have far more murders than it has. If people are willing to get guns from elsewhere to take with them, then the law isn't the problem.
BTW, it's a longer drive from South Carolina to New Jersey than from Illinois to Indiana. And yet, Newark does worse than Chicago.
Gun control isn't the answer, neither is gun free zones...they are nothing compared to the mentality of thugs...
Thugs and criminals are what is causing this, not guns...and the sooner you learn this the better things will become.
Teenage mothers are not the answer
Parents hooked on drugs are not the answer
Parents hooked on alcohol are not the answer
Gang, and thug mentality are not the answer.
Education is.....
you take a poll, in each area where these crimes are committed, and you will find it's basically all the things I have mentioned above.
you outlaw guns, and your setting everyone else up to be attacked by criminals.....
Teen pregnancy rates are at the lowest rate since WW2. Blacks and Hispanics teen pregnancy rates have declined sharply.
Nonmarital pregnancy rates peaked in 2006/7 and has been declining ever since. The women are in their 20-30's, now. Their emotional maturity levels however, may be that of 13 year olds.
Iceland leads the developed world in terms of nonmarital pregnancies , way more common amongst the native population than marital pregnancies. It's a rather isolated population where extreme poverty or wealth are not the norm.
The US is long past the tipping point when it comes to hand guns. There is no turning back.
Hand guns are the weapons of choice in gang related violence, very different than the weapons favored by whack jobs who commit spectacular mass murder.
People using Chicago as any kind of litmus tests have their heads up their.....clouds.
The highest number of licenses may well be in the most violent neighborhoods. The reason crime hasn't gone down is because the police are lame ducks, El Chapo has his hand in the guns and drugs that are poured into that part of the city, and gang bangers are killing one another - except in those cases where innocent bystanders are hit - and nothing could have prevented that. In the event these thugs break into a home of someone with a legal permit and gun, they'll be protected, but little of that probably goes on.
Crime isn't going to go down in Chicago until a number of other factors are put into place first.
Oak Park IL murder rate: 0 (2014)
Indianapolis, IN murder rate: 15.8 (2014)
Wilmette, IL murder rate: 0 (2014)
South Bend, IN murder rate: 16.9 (2014)
So clearly guns aren't the problem. Why is it anti gun nuts have such a hard time grasping something so obvious? If firearm availability is the same and the murder rate is drastically different it should be obvious guns aren't the problem. What is different about areas with vastly higher murder rates? Economics? Demographics? unwed mothers with children from multiple fathers? Too much welfare? Maybe you could just ban poverty, I'm sure that if only you spend more tax dollars and pass more laws you can solve the problem.

People using Chicago as a litmus test is stupid. I think it is only being used because the President used to live there.
Most criminals don't follow the law, so the idea of gun permits in terms of criminals is basically moot.
This post states how minorities don't matter (aka racism). Any thoughts?
I was talking about how black lives and gay lives don't matter to Obama. He had zero emotion for the 49 gays killed in Orlando or those killed at Ft. Hood, San Bernadino... what got him seething with hate was Trump and all white males....unless Muslim.
