Whether you approve, or disapprove, of the leaks of NSA/USA spying activities across the globe, including collecting virtually every digital footprint left behind by billions of average, everyday people, you have to admit that Edward Snowden won. Why? Because his actions have cast all sorts of doubts on the virtues of the US Government resulting in acrimony across world governments and their people, lawsuits against government that were once dismissed for "national security reasons," admissions of law-breaking by our very own government, and the general proclivity of people to stand up and say "enough is enough!" Yes, Edward Snowden has achieved his goals.

Except for the fact he can never return to his own country.

He's caused the discussion to begin, exposed the lies of the government and created some very uncomfortable moments for those telling the lies but until the spying stops, he hasn't won.

I doubt he cares. His principles are larger than his desire for an American lifestyle.

True, but the tip of the iceberg has been exposed. I believe he has been hugely productive in that sense.

I don't know what his motives were in doing what he did. If he was true to his "principles" he would have faced his accusers in court.FWIW being an American has more to do with love of country than the lifestyle.

He will return. As soon as the courts rule on the illegality of the spying basically the charges against him are then equal to shoplifting.

I tend to agree. It will be interesting to see what happens in Russia when the one-year expiration of his temporary asylum approaches.

Facing the consequences of ones actions have never been proof that one holds to their principles. After the US Constitution was signed, most of the signers ran off and hid from the British who were trying to kill them..

It wasnt that long ago that Democrats believed that people should be rewarded for leaking this type of information. But then there was a Republican in the White House..
