Whenever we want to massively rewrite the US Constitution, we can turn the United States into a theocracy. Until then, religion and morality associated with religion needs to stay out of politics. I do wish the GOP would fully realized this. Maybe they finally are? We aren't prosecuting adulterers. We aren't prosecuting unmarried couples for living together. We aren't prosecuting couples with "open" relationships. We aren't prosecuting pornographers. We're not legally imposing traditional Christian values in any of these other cases. So how about leaving the LGBT community alone?

Since the SCOTUS is going to strike down pretty much anything that fails to meet "equal protection" muster, it's kind of a waste of time anyways. Time would be better spend on issues that we can actually do something about.

It's so nice to have an insider who is working on the new platform posting here.

It would be even nicer if said insider would post some actual information.

But lacking that, we'll just have to go by the NYT's sources.

decades? decades would imply 20+ years. also, democrats always like to point out the mistakes of republicans many years past, so do not be hypocritical and only allow the republicans past to be heard.

hilary said it and it is part of her past and her current belief today. she said it, and do you truly think she is just not pandering to the lgbt crowd to get their vote?

if you do not think so, then you are truly deluding yourself.

Gays are more friends of women in general. We stand by women since they are another group that is terrorized by the white heterosexual male power base.

Therefore, it is natural Hillary gets our votes.

Trump's, as well as posters, have proven to women voters that there is a deep seated hate for women within the GOP. The strongest message I hear is the GOP doesn't like Hillary because she has a "vagina".

Well those messages must be Democratic plants. All they do is drive more women away from the GOP.

Well they are anti-women which is largest group of voters.... 53%
Hillary wins that group by a full 24% according to pew

The gay male community is perhaps 5% and Hillary is wins this group by 90%

The male black and Latino group is perhaps another 10% and Hillary wins this group by 75%.

This leaves white males. Hmmmmm. Trump must capture about 65% of these voters in these 17 states that Romney failed to win. Good luck spin doctors.
After reading this post, I am pretty sure the narrow minded bigotry of which you speak is not coming from the GOP but is just projection onto the party by those who are poster children for narrow minded bigotry.

We cannot help how you deal with your feelings related to your sexuality, but those feelings of loathing and hatred are NOT coming from any external sources to you.

I agree that this is a state issue. States have always had control over marriage licensing requirements, etc. How many states had passed SSM laws prior to the SCOTUS action?

You really think that a state legislature that is too weak and scared to enact a law that protects the privacy of woman against predators so as not to offend people suffering from gender dysmorphic disease and legislatures that enact laws criminalizing anyone who doesn't call another person by the proper pronoun based on how that person "identifies" is going to repeal SSM laws? Really? No, really??

There are no differences. They're both religious objections. For now, Muslims are allowed to keep their 1st Amendment Rights, but Christians aren't. That will eventually face a challenge, as I've described...

Muslim school-age girls who are permitted to wear their hijabs in school due to their religious belief when other students aren't allowed to wear hats, etc. But what happens when Muslim school-age girls object due to religious reasons to changing/showering in school multiple occupancy locker/shower rooms with an anatomical male who claims to be transgender?

And what happens when a Muslim public employee clerk or elected official is asked to issue a permit for a SSM, and objects and declines on religious grounds?

It's not. The platform is stating the principles that the GOP has always held. STATES RIGHTS. Less Federal Government Intervention. Following the Constitution.

Just because pet issues are the focus of the platform because they are specific examples of Federal Government overreach and violation of the Constitution doesn't translate in a "phobia" or hatred.

I really wish that some people would use their brains instead of their knee jerking to understand the reality of issues and break free of the indoctrination from BOTH sides of the aisle.

This is not going to pass when introduced on the floor. I don't believe that this issue is something that most members of the GOP would want as part of an official platform. If I and any of my friends that are active in the GOP were delegates, this would never get voted onto the platform.

Not gonna happen.

Exception noted as to transgender bathroom issue.

People need to realize that ANYONE can offer an amendment to the platform, but it still has to be voted on by all delegates to the NRC for it to actually become a plank.
