Everyone should have military grade "assault rifles" as long as there are still thugs and tyrants running around trying to impose their personal beliefs and interests upon others. Assault rifles are needed BECAUSE there are people who believe that they have a Divine right to take away assault rifles from other people.

As long as the State has a fictional right to initiate force upon the individual, the individual should have access to all weapons available to the State. How are humans to defend themselves from the thug government? (and the thugs who use it to be tyrants towards their neighbors?)

google image search for "rifle competition" and see all those AR-15 rifles being used, nothing assaulting about them.

Yes because the other side is compromising and willing to make deals.....

I don't get why the left defenders, and the right defenders, don't form their own group because both are just as close minded as the other... flip sides of the exact same coin.

No compromise to the left means you giving and they taking just like when they demand "open dialogue" it means they talk and you listen......

You don't even know what an assault rifle is. Why would anyone want to compromise with someone with absolutely no idea what they're talking about?

Come now, you must compromise and have open dialogue , their propaganda defines and you must see the enlightenment.

Funny I use a semi-automatic shotgun for clay shooting, if someone were to saw off the barrel and go to a mall or school untold would be shot "heaven forbid".

I think GOP should concede on Gay marriage and Abortion. Democrats should concede on promoting lawlessness.
Exhibit A: GOP should concede on 2 concrete issues where their existing position is known and is essentially a maximalist position--1) GOP position is that gay marriage should not be permitted, 2) GOP position is that abortion should be outlawed.

On the other hand, Democrats should concede on an undefined issue (which is really a strawman and demagoguery masquerading as an issue to "concede.")

Exhibit B: The Democratic position on firearms is a moderate position. It is: 1) universal background checks, 2) a federal assault weapons ban, 3) localities should be free to enforce restrictions on weapons (like prohibiting concealed carry, etc.).

Why can't the parties compromise? The sad state of affairs is that we have a centrist party and an extremist party.

The Affordable Care Act is a near facsimile of an old Republican plan (and its a law whose provisions are popular, if not the package as a whole). Cap and trade is an old, Republican proposal to let the market deal with GHG emissions. Upholding Roe v. Wade is maintenance of a Solomonic status quo. TPP builds on a bipartisan history of promoting trade.
