I really don't care about income inequality. I DO care about improving the standard of living for poor people.
I don't care about inequality, or the standard of living of the poor. I do care about employment. Or more correctly work force participation. (mine)

But in a global economy it is the bottom of the world that needs to come up not us that go down.

Generalizing I do not disagree that we can do better. The problem is we would have to quit allowing the banks to run the economy but it is the banks with the money.

I stated what I stated above before getting to your quote. Yes, it must be broken.

Yes, and the best way to do that is with free trade which creates jobs.

Exactly. We should be trying to bring down existing trade barriers, not add to the existing ones.

In Order to have Free Trade, all countries economies would have to be modeled after ours.
Would you like to replace our economy with one like China's where workers have no rights and millions have their independent farms bull dozed and are forced to move to the cities for work?
Would you like the American Government to own all the Big Corporations like China?

Why or why not?

Why would companies create jobs here when they can go to countries where workers have no rights and work for slave wages?

Because they expect courts here to protect their rights, such as patents and intellectual property. If you are going to move your production there, go to their courts to protect your rights and interests.

There is a point where economic inequality becomes so prominent that it actually perpetuates dysfunction (see crime in Brazil and South Africa).

No one is suggesting that everyone should earn the same amount, but the most problematic societies in the world are ones where so little control so much. Remember, money is power.
