This is the same story that sadly repeats itself. Trigger happy police justifying murder....They need to release that dash cam footage. The public needs to know how these cops are acting. It obvious that the guy didn't hear the sirens and was going home. They said he was shot in his own neighborhood.
Well, it did make national news, which surprises me. Because the man was disabled, enough fuss might ensue so as to vet the real story. If his family hires a tiger shark attorney, we will hear more. LE agencies HATE this. They try and go dark as possible on these incidents. In most officer involved shootings, sans any witnesses with video, they usually just go away. Now, if a few hundred angry citizens make a ruckus, that's enough to lay siege to the blue, or brown, or khaki, or tac black wall.
Sadly, we'll be waiting a long time for any "facts". Unless, a bunch of angrypeople keep pushing this. Otherwise, people keeping quiet and waiting for developments is just what the agency here wants. They will urge patience, and just let it die. So sure, wait for the facts, but, if you really want true accountability here, it will have to be pushed. Right now, this incident is on life support, with the ones in charge pushing to pull the plug.
Sad, but true. My money is still on this going nowhere...hope I'm wrong.
Sometimes that's what it takes. A good example of this is the John Geer case in Springfield, Va. in my neck of the woods. An unarmed man shot while standing in the doorway of his home. It took almost three years of citizen pressure and outrage (including numerous editorials by the Washington Post) to get a bad cop off of the force and into jail where he belonged. Without the constant pressure and publicity Fairfax PD would have stalled and stonewalled the case until it was forgotten by the public and then swept it under the rug. Out of sight out of mind. Case closed.

Freedom of information act gets you "the facts".
Screaming foul play before we know hardly any facts just obfuscates things with cries of wolf. (there may indeed be a wolf...but maybe not)
Anymore I'd say for every case where the cop did something wrong we have 9 cases where we find out that the public hysteria including outright lying was really the case. (Remember Ferguson????)
At some point you are dulling public outrage by trying to turn every incident into a bad action by the police before you really know.
Hysteria and mob mentality never wins hearts and minds. Just look at the comments in this thread, they're full of imaginative hyperbole from zealots....rationale people read that crap and just
That's your response to a guess by a poster about an incident that we don't even know for sure yet warrants criminal charges.
Well sure, if we imagine someone did something illegally and then imagined that they were charged and then imagined they would walk free....I can imagine why that would upset you.
However, I imagine that the police officer is actually a mutant and when they go to electrocute him because I imagine that they'd have made the electric chair legal again....I imagine it will give the ex-cop super powers and he will kill us all with I'm imagining....lighting bolts from his buttocks.
If something concrete develops then I will join you in your outrage but for now go hallucinate somewhere else.
I wonder.. if this proves to be justified.. will those here who are wrong say so..??? of course not...
Who will get sucked into the internet says" its so" it must be true garbage... when in reality it is usually never as depicted
Because I dont know... and NONE OF YOU know... if it's justified its sad.. if it isn't its sad... either way lives are broken and destroyed
There are some simple truths we do know;
1) If he stopped as is required the outcome would have been different.. and least in the real world of 99.9 percent certainty
2) there are very biased anti police anti authority anti anything types in the world.. including on city data
3) Few if any of you go out of your way to daily interact in a positive manner with a police officer.. know what they actually do.. what standards they actually adhere to. For example.. how many here have read the policy and procedures manual for The NC state police? Their pursuit policy? Their use of force policy?.. zero?..ok... well its public knowledge...
Ill hold my judgement on this one.. as I have for other shootings that were justified but a repeat select group of citydata folks said were murders...I have my thoughts as to what MIGHT have happened,, but its conjecture...speculation, not factual, and potentially biased as such... many of you have CONVICTION... criminally
The family of the dead man says "he will be a hero in our deaf community".... I would rather he be a model citizen alive.. 100 yards.. a quarter mile..ok... eight mile pursuit with use of force.... really?...
The fund raising site is already filling up.... hes not even buried yet... I read a lot of blah blah blah...
Is this what America has become?
We got one hour training the academy of handling specifically deaf folks.. taught by a police sign specialist...thats actually a lot in a 2200 hour academy with thousands of subjects to cover
We learned WHAT a hearing impaired person might experience.. how we needed to deal with that.. and the basic sign for "are you deaf?
We didnt learn "are you deaf Kings x" after a 8 mile high speed pursuit where force had been already used
Common sense escapes many

I know pretty much nothing about this case other than what I've read on this thread. I'm about to read the articles. I will say that I don't think a cop has ever used his sirens to pull me over. In the dozens of times I've been stopped, just the emergency lights were activated, day or night.
I hope they release the video footage soon.
