Exactly. You could probably get on a train and walk down a street in japan at midnight and be perfectly safe. America is a shining example of the failures of multiculturalism.

American cities have enormous disparities in wealth, insane rents, mass transit and infrastructure is crap. and way more crime than asia and certain parts of europe. A 900 square foot in seoul is $1370, a 900 square foot in tokyo is around $2000,in taipei its around $1,500, singapore is 2,000. They have clean ,efficient mass transit with low crime and most these cities are far more futuristic than any bloated, overpriced american city where rents easily go for 2500-3000+

America will never be a progressive society with multiculturalism and large multi racialism , nobody wants to pay welfare for funding out of wedlock births and crime in housing projects or using mass transit when its full of thugs and homeless weirdoes.

Compare a liberal leftie in america to asian lefties , none of them favor mass immigration or muliti racial multicultural societies, they care about making their own societies progressive, not adopting the rest of the world

Why would Australia (or any country) allow mass immigration? That is the real question, not the opposite.

Conservatives and republicans have done a very poor job of protecting the border as well. We really need a third party in this country, lets see what trump can do but the republican elites, Ryan, McConnell, McCain etc are not allies at all.
Illegal immigration became a tidal wave in the 80's and peaked in 2005/6 with the housing bubble. Who do you think built homes during the housing bubble?

1986 - The bipartisan Immigration Reform and Control Act which for the first time made knowingly hiring an undocumented worker a crime. It also gave legal status to 3-6 million ( depends on source) illegal immigrants.

1994 and 1997 amendment of ^ gave legal status to 578, 000 illegal immigrants

1998- Hatian Relief Act gave legal status to 125,000 Haitians

1997- Nicaraguan Adj and Central Americal Relief Act gave legal status to 1 million illegal immigrants

2000- 900,000 illegal immigrants were given legal status based on the 1994 amendment of the 1986 Act

While employment of undocumented workers became a crime 30 years ago, there's no serious consequences for doing so and ICE does not have the manpower to do more than the occasional raid of a chicken plant.

Thus far, neither Republican or Democrat majorities have chosen to mandate e- Verify. Only a handful of states have done so. So long as illegal immigrants can be employed without consequence to their employers, illegal immigration will persist. No wall is high enough. No patrol deep enough.

The Powerful Chamber of Commerce, on behalf of small business, heavily lobbies at the state and federal level against e-Verify and harsh consequences.

Most lefties and liberals want the U.S. to be like countries like Australia or Denmark so the point is...
they're hypocrites that can't quite explain their position.

For a country to offer cradle to grave almost free healthcare to its entire population the country has to have extremely limited immigration. Otherwise a country and it's providers can't afford it. Nothing is free someone is still paying for it.

Phhht ... Australia doesn't even allow gay marriage. I find it obnoxious how many Australians stick their noses ten feet up America's affairs with haughty opinions and insults, yet their own freaking country fails to lead by example in so many ways.

Very true a lot of Australians feel they are a superior country to the U.S.

My sister became an Australian citizen 20 years ago and has been a hyper-critical sh*t talker about the US - her native country - literally since the day she got there. She's entirely incapable of focusing on her own flawed government, however. Ugh. A real jewel to spend occasional holidays with.

Lefties? <crickets>

It's amazing how people on the left can never answer these simple questions. They're truly a lost group of people.
This liberal is not and never has been in favor of mass immigration, especially from countries that are very different culturally/linguistically.

I don't care if people think it's racist.

I don't actually think that there is strength in diversity. I'd rather see America remain, demographically speaking, like it was in the 60s.

I don't think we need to import more:

1.) Poor people
2.) People who don't speak English
3.) Illiterate people (in any language)
4.) People whose values are very different from our own (take that any way you like)
5.) People who expect us to change to accommodate them
6.) People who are here to take jobs that Americans are perfectly capable of doing

America has always been a violent nation, more so today but immigration didn't just begin this century. Japan has an ageing population, the birth rate has declined and they need to allow immigrants to sustain. What do you think the US would look like lacking young immigrants who account for a high percentage of births, very old country. Immigration has been allowed by both republicans and democrats, regardless of what those on the right say publically they understand the economics. Perfect time for change with all the GOP governors, legislatures, president and congress, watch what happens.

It's easier to keep up with infrastructure when you don't spend 5% of GDP on Defense.
Housing projects, segregation were failed policies, but we are learning from our mistakes.

Repubs don't want to restrict immigration to embrace socialism, or any liberal policies for that matter. Let’s not kid ourselves. So no need to ever bring up Sweden, Denmark, or Norway in support of your arguments against immigration.

Anti-immigration repubs will never get the vote of liberals who are all for capping immigration more tightly until said repubs start embracing progressive stances on other issues – energy, education, healthcare, labor, transportation, etc. etc. – which they will never do.
