Assuming Trump builds the Mexican border wall, what do y'all think will happen to the cartels and smuggling gangs south of the border? Their existence is based on their ability to smuggle drugs and illegal immigrants into the U.S. The news always mentions how the gangs have created dangerous situations in Central America pushing the illegal minors across, though the gangs also benefit from smuggling them!

If the gateway for illegal drugs to the US is sealed, will the cartels be defeated as without profits, they'll no longer be able to control the government and police in Latin America? Do you think its possible the Mexican cartels and Central American gangs may resort to terrorism like Pablo Escobar did in order to preserve their dominance and prevent the wall from being built?

Not a damn thing.

Wanna defeat the cartels? Legalize drugs.

Cartels have more money, time on their hands, and innovation than governments do. To think that walls can do what even oceans can't do is inanity at its best.

In fact walls CAN be successful in preventing individuals from crossing. Israel is the perfect example. There have been almost no suicide bombings anymore as the West Bank border wall has managed to stop Muslim terrorists from crossing into Israel to carry out attacks. yes the terrorists there now have rockets, but I don't see the cartels flying drugs into the U.S. and we can detect any drones they try to use.

The demilitarized zone in Korea is also very effective in keeping the borders sealed to individuals trying to cross it. The wall I would like to see would be similar to these two examples.

Heroine and cocaine will come across via drones, tunnels, smuggled in vehicles and even over the wall.

No offense OP, but are you suggesting most illegal drugs in the US are brought by foot over the Mexican border? That's a big negative. The biggest deliveries are done by cargo ship and other large scale means.

The majority of drugs come through the Mexican border overland. Smuggling via ships and aircraft have been substantially curtailed since the 1980s.

The cartels also smuggle the majrority of illegal aliens into the US and that is a large chunk of their business. Even though if the border is sealed and the drug business declines, Central America will be safer and based on liberal media theories there will be fewer illegals trying to make the crossing.

And no, I don't advocate legalizing cocaine and meth. Another thing that will reduce drug use is if our society has better morals and values, but liberals are against any kind of religious or moral education in schools. I do believe that if we go back to becoming a more Christian nation we will also have less issues with drugs and crime.

I think the current war on drug is a total failure.

It has funneled an estimated $100b ( I don't remember the exact number) in annual revenue into black market enterprises that otherwise could have been taxed and regulated as legitimate businesses. The amount of violence and additional crime stemming from those illegal enterprises, both here and abroad, is astounding.

Just a wall is not going to solve anything. Military securing the border, problem solved. No wall needed. Too much money, less effective.

I am a Trump supporter and a Trump voter; but that "build a wall, build a wall" non-sense is something I don't agree with.
