At first I thought your post was sarcastic, but I'm not so sure. Do you actually believe everyone should have been carrying automatic weapons when they were picking up their luggage?

By the way, Obama never took away automatic weapons. They were banned in the 1930s.

If you're talking about semi-automatic weapons, please show me any bills Obama passed that banned these guns.

It was reported very early on in this thread that Air Canada had determined he was not a passenger on one of their flights and in any case; there are no direct AC flights from Anchorage to Ft Lauderdale.

The only connection to Canada that can be found in this is Air Canada shares Terminal 2 passenger and baggage handling facilities with Delta Airlines.

They can't even quickly check people through in a line without losing it, you don't think they can handle this situation effectively, do you?

all that money and manpower in govt security and this dude was shooting fish in a barrel until he ran out of bullets. A real tragedy.
As is typically the case some bureaucrat or politician will come out and say airport security is underfunded and understaffed.

The killer spent time in both Iraq and Afghanistan causing him to have a unbalanced mental state. Sad news for many of the victims who were heading on a cruise.

This is heartbreaking.

We'll be paying for those God damn wars forever.
Yes, he served for years in the National Guard. He reported that he was hearing voices and received treatment after returning from his deployment in the ME. He's also 26 which is the age at which people with schizophrenia begin to show symptoms. We just don't know enough about the shooter yet, but people continue to make up "facts" about him.

What's sad is a that Alex Jones and some right wing websites reported that "he lived less than 2 miles from a mosque in Alaska." I live down the road from at least 3 churches. So what?

All this is really very silly and reminds me of George Bush and the "Mexican Race". There is no Hispanic RACE.
I'm just saying how the United Sates classifies race on forms.

Florida Shooter Had Been Sent To A Mental Hospital Over "ISIS Ties", Was Investigated For Child Porn | Zero Hedge

They add that in November 2016, just two months ago, he walked into an FBI office in Anchorage claiming that the government had "forced him to watch ISIS videos" and to fight for ISIS. According to a slightly different narrative presented by CNN, source said that Santiago was hearing voice telling him to join the Islamic State. Ultimately he was sent to a psychiatric hospital.
He seems to be very sick in the head.

More families forever impacted due to some guy or gal with a mental aberration deciding a firearm and random shooting would assuage their demons.

A very great pity.

My sincere condolences to all those surviving loved ones who might inadvertently wander onto this site and wonder at it evolving into just another "gun" thread.

As a local who uses Ft Lauderdale airport 5-10 a year, I can assure there is plenty of security around, although not as much in the baggage claim area (which should be the least predictable place where an attack would occur). A nut-case attack like this could happen anywhere, and this time it just happened to be an airport.
