WTF? The guy is in prison for life. He killed someone... and he gets state funded surgery??? Wheres the Logic???
A 57-year-old convicted killer serving a life sentence in California became the first U.S. inmate to receive state-funded sex-reassignment surgery, the prisoner's attorneys confirmed Friday to The Associated Press.
California prison officials agreed in August 2015 to pay for the surgery for Shiloh Heavenly Quine, who was convicted of first-degree murder, kidnapping and robbery for ransom and has no possibility of parole.
So they're putting a MAN in a women's prison!?! A man convicted of murder? What is wrong with these idiots? I hope they will keep him separated from the women, because this is so unfair. No matter what his brain says, he still has the strength of a man. These women could be endangered because of this.
How does it get reimbursed though the Feds ? I mean, how was that arrived at?
The State fought this case for a long time, they refused to pay for the surgery and the federal courts couldn't find a way to make them pay for it so the feds are paying for it.
"The decision (for the federal government) to pay for Quine's surgery was aided by the recent case of another transgender prisoner represented by the Transgender Law Center, Michelle Norsworthy. In April, a federal judge ruled that the state must pay for Nortsworthy's sex reassignment surgery, a first in California. But the state fought the ruling and on Friday Governor Jerry Brown agreed to parole Norsworthy, likely meaning that the state would not pay for the surgery."

This is not a new issue for jails or prisons, if a trans person still has their man parts they are housed with men. Clearly they are going to be subjected to harassment and abuse so they need to be protected and the facility has to do so in a way that they are not placed in solitary which is usually reserved for short term confinement
