You must be getting the great ones then, because the rest are moving to N. Ga and SW North Carolina in droves and getting a really bad reputation as the "halfbacks" here. (Not just Jersey but the whole N.E. as a whole.)
That would be me. We moved north of Atlanta from Boston area for a job transfer. Have met many People who moved from up north.

I grew up in NY, and the house I grew up in didn't get central AC until the year we sold it (I was 11 at the time), but I will say, that during heatwaves, my parents' bedroom with the window unit, or the basement (which stayed naturally cool due to being in the ground, like a cave) were the places to be. On those 90's days/70's nights, I would sleep in the basement
