Then why is that after the government MANDATED that everyone have insurance or be fined, has insurance costs continued to skyrocket and why are costs of premiums and deductibles still out of the reach of 28 Million Americans in 2016???

Not saying that obesity doesnt add any extra costs (but fat people also die earlier so there's that), but it probably is a distraction to focus on that (and an excuse to keep the current dysfunctional corrupt health care system going).
A distraction? Not really. In 2008, just the health care costs of obesity alone were about $158 billion/year.

By 2012, that was up to $190 billion/year.

A "fat tax" is definitely in order.

Interesting thread. I just wanted to point out that under a single payor sysyem you not only eliminate insurance company profits, you also eliminate many of the insurance company expenses which are currently reflected in the insurance premiums which customers pay. For example, many or maybe even most insurance company jobs would not be needed at all.

If you have lived your live feeling good and in good health nearly 100% of the time, why care about the health of other people?

I'm fine with it. That, and for smokers.

We are a country of INDIVIDUALS. I am not required to care about the health of others. That is why this country was founded.

To not care about other people? Damn. I missed that text in the Declaration. I should go back and read it again.

Jesus, you people have some loony ideas about the country you live in. Were you all sick the day they taught American history in 4th grade?

If you don't enjoy living in a society, maybe buy a deserted island?
