The less people are covered the higher the costs for the people who do have insurance and who have to subsidize the rest.
Then why is that after the government MANDATED that everyone have insurance or be fined, has insurance costs continued to skyrocket and why are costs of premiums and deductibles still out of the reach of 28 Million Americans in 2016???
Not really. Australia and the UK also have plenty of obese people. Japan has none. Yet, health care costs in Australia and the UK are very low among developed countries (lower than Japan and almost any other country).
If obesity was such a huge source of the costs in America, it would have shown up in health care of other countries as well. Not saying that obesity doesnt add any extra costs (but fat people also die earlier so there's that), but it probably is a distraction to focus on that (and an excuse to keep the current dysfunctional corrupt health care system going).
A distraction? Not really. In 2008, just the health care costs of obesity alone were about $158 billion/year.
Interesting thread. I just wanted to point out that under a single payor sysyem you not only eliminate insurance company profits, you also eliminate many of the insurance company expenses which are currently reflected in the insurance premiums which customers pay. For example, many or maybe even most insurance company jobs would not be needed at all.
I think by now even the folks that will not admit it or the ones that only knew this snake oil salesman from hos reality show...are starting to realize how FOS he always is.
We are a country of INDIVIDUALS. I am not required to care about the health of others. That is why this country was founded.
If you don't enjoy living in a society, maybe buy a deserted island?
