I guess the new economic tonic according to Los Angeles and Chicago is to have native-born Americans moving out in droves and lots and lots of international immigration and births.

I have no opinion, but it seems like that is magic formula that Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City want these days.

New York City metro had a domestic outmigration of just 199,000 people in one year, it only gained because of international migration and child births.

Looks like based on the numbers Americans are rushing out of Los Angeles with all that equity and swarming into Las Vegas and Phoenix with the extremely low taxes, freedom and libertarian and conservative mentality.

Or they cant afford it any more but want to stay in the west. Colorado is becoming California and they hate it. Denver housing is getting very pricey.

Certainly not the American Dream of the house with a white picket fence in the city basin, there is no land left. What houses are left are bought for a million rebuilt and sold for $2 million. More condos are going up however. Meanwhile the commutes from the suburbs where new homes are being built on what was desert wilderness is getting increasingly grim.

In the case of LA., they can't afford to.

Saw it in Oakland, too. Places that used to rent for $700 a month just a couple years ago now going for 2k a month. They are gentrifying rapidly and the underclass is being priced out.

Hope their refugees don't end up in NV too. We have enough Californicators here.

Actually, as you know, the truly poor usually can't afford to move AT ALL. Thus they are trapped in whatever hellhole their communities are turning into.
Blacks who have roots in our big cities might want to think about that a bit more. I guess maybe they need more "community organizers" to help them resist the transformation of their neighborhoods and towns into third world sewers, via things such as state-sponsored illegal immigration????

No, it's really just trying to point out how some cities are turning into Little Mogadishus, territories of Mexico, unassimilated breeding grounds for social pathologies, etc. etc. etc. etc.
You're welcome.

Cost of living is important but lots of places have high prices and population still rises. And that really isn't the issue in Chicago.

Jobs, quality of life, crime, etc. also all play big parts. And the domestic migration of these two places speak for themselves. Those who can, are getting out.

People are leaving the disgusting Democrat controlled cities for other cities because they have LIVED the reality. They know where it leads. You think they are going to be ambassadors for liberalism??
lol

Supply, demand, and geography. So many people wanted to live in Los Angeles. It has been a magnet for people for so many reasons. One major draw is the ocean. The Mediterranean climate is another. The entertainment industry. Aerospace industry. The port complex. More people sought out LA than there was land available. Prices went up exponentially. And then you have gentrification in many areas. It's easier to bring in those who already have the money than to build homes for the middle class and have them pay mortgages. Hence, many have spread out to the desert. Funny little thing. Even prices in the desert are going up.

I live in Georgia, where there are 10.1 million people. Many residents from California are moving here because it's markedly cheaper. A move to Atlanta for a California means being in a big city for a much lesser cost. LA County alone has 10 million people. And then add Orange, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties. If the city of Los Angeles had NYC's population density, it would have 13,453,183 people. Far more people want LA than there is room for.

No people really really do. It's reflected in it's housing price most significantly. That's what high demand does to the prices of housing. The only thing that's holding everyone back is the free market pricing people out.
