Perhaps if we would stop going to war in the sand we could afford the pennies taken out of our paycheck for the poor.

What are you talking about? It hasnt been cut (yet). Now is the time to organize to stop any cuts to the most desperate seniors who are hanging on by their threads. All in order to provide tax cuts for Trump and his cronies. This is of course, in addition to the other vicious attacks on the most vulnerable people in America. There is always more money for the military industrial complex. But never money for the sick, the poor, the disabled and the elderly who are struggling. Very funny.

8 OUT OF 10 MEALS ON WHEELS PROGRAMS RELY ON FEDERAL FUNDING TO SERVE SENIORS

With the President's full FY 2018 Budget set to be released on Tuesday, May 23, Meals on Wheels programs across the country are bracing themselves for proposed cuts that would lead them to make very tough choices. Our latest infographic details just how cuts would affect this vital public-private partnership and the vulnerable seniors it serves.

So, how many bags of food did you put in your mailbox the other day when the (oh, such horrible, evil, lazy!) government workers! in the postal service were picking up donations? Or, did that just happen in my rural, fairly poor neighborhood? They only left me one bag to fill, but I gave them back several.

Doubtful anyone will be safer, but they might be hungrier!
Can't wait to see the details. I would never want to see anyone truly go hungry, especially the elderly and young children but it is time there is some control on who gets what and how much. There are way too many people taking advantage of our system. More need to get off the duffs and get a job. For those benefiting from these programs they should, if physically able be required to put in a certain number of hours each week doing something to earn their way. I don't care if it is picking up trash or dusting parking meters.

ambient: no one is suggesting cutting out all social programs, reducing the amount and cutting the program out are 2 different things.
Hubby told me just last week: I needed to cut back on my credit card use, never did he say I need to stop using credit cards. Why do so many want to spin or read things into programs that are just not true?

Meals on Wheels America
How about we cut all benefits to illegal immigrants and give all that money to the American citizen seniors ?

I believe even most private charity simply supports sloth. I donate to St Jude's and a local animal shelter.

I do not ask you to do the same.

If a neighbor comes to me hungry with a good sob story I will feed him.

The fact is the precipitous decline in the poverty rate stopped when the Great Society began.

I am sure you mean well.

How many times must people say this? This isnt a proposed increase in funds to police the system to catch fraud.

I'm a agnostic/atheist and have more compassion then most Christian republicans I have met. I truly cannot comprehend the shortsighted greed of those who claim they believe in God, and constantly demonstrate their greed.
