It's not about what Comey understood what the President wanted. It's about what the President said, and there was nothing illegal or obstructionist by the President saying he "hoped".

Comey fired for his irrational way with words, his abstract unclear behavior with his testimony. How did this guy get to be the FBI director? My gosh, this guy is so inconsistent.

As Comey stated, when such a request comes from the President of the United States it carries a lot of weight.

You can take something as you may, but it all comes down to the FACT that Trump never game him a direct order to drop the investigation.

Specifically--what did he 'admit'? You may be misinterpreting his words.

Which is why its not enough to impeach. Its too open to interpretation

Sounds like Trump was not under investigation before he decided to try to kill the one on Flynn.

My take.

Comey got a new boss and meet/talked to him many times. Comey does not like or "feel" comfortable with Trump. Trump is different and keeps wanting to talk to him about ongoing investigation. He liked Obama because he left him alone. Obama probably used other staff to communicate with Comey. Trump went right to the source. Unheard of in Washington. You are suppose to use the "little people" to have the connections.

Comey probably was worried about his job. Not uncommon for a new boss to reassure you that your job is safe. New bosses do that all the time while watching your performance. No trust or loyalty between new boss and new employee...very common.
