Isn't it funny how the group that swears that party names are irrelevant to beliefs (hence the "I'm not a Republican, I'm a Conservative that votes Republican" and RINO arguments) desperately wants us to believe the Democrats of 1865 are the same as the Democrats of 2015, despite sharing none of the same political platform?
USED to be the Democrats until the 60s, but then they felt LBJ betrayed them with the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act, and so switched to the Republicans gradually through the 70s and 80s
The GOP employed " the Southern Strategy" to successfully woo disaffected white racists from the Democrat party. The GOP acknowledged this and appolgized for it.
Despite this, some persist with denying there was ever any strategy to appeal to racism.
At the same time, some horrible riots occured in Democratic strongholds in Northern cities.
The Cicero ( suburb of Chicago) Riots in 1951 ( before my time) destroyed an apartment building when a college- educated and professional black man and his family attempted to move into a unit and was met by a mob of 4000. My father was among them.
Look at what happened in Boston when schools were integrated.
Party name has nothing to do with it. Whichever party is right wing. Right now the Republicans cater to this segment of our population. The southern Democrats were also right wing in the past. Names of parties change but ideology does not. Sorry this is so difficult for some to understand. Nobody reasonably educated is going to dispute that members of the KKK were Democrats in the beginning. Democrats TODAY are not members of the KKK. Anyway...
Sadly, this view is very naive. Most of the KKK is still "yellow dog Democrats", meaning they'd rather vote for a yellow dog before they would ever vote for a Republican.
Watch the video I posted above this post and see how much you can factually refute.
BTW - I am sure you think LBJ was this great (D) civil rights potus helping blacks, but are unaware he was in fact a racist just exploiting blacks for cynical political gain. He is quoted as having said;
"These Negroes, they're getting pretty uppity these days and that's a problem for us since they've got something now they never had before, the political pull to back up their uppityness. Now we've got to do something about this, we've got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference."
"I’ll have those n iggers voting Democratic for 200 years"
He is listed among the 5 top racist presidents according to this article, all (D's) by the way.

Please be honest and do not google or search. Just go by what you know.
Let's how how good you are.
That was a few minutes of my life reading this poll and thread that I can’t get back. Grade school students know enough history to be aware of political change over the years in red states.

So KKK recuiter and officer senator Byrd was a republican?

Was the KKK pro-Confederacy then and are they pro-Confederacy now?
