I voted that they CAN be fired.
But, in reality, not for their "views", but what they do to express their "views".
Take the NFL, for instance. I have read that it is spelled out in the NFL rules exactly when the National Anthem will be played, and what the players WILL do while it is being played. If the player violates the rule, he is subject to disciplinary action, which may, if the owner desires, include termination of contract. At least one, and possibly more, owner(s) has stated that termination WILL occur. Actions usually have consequences. What those consequences will be is entirely up to the team owner.
As for university professors, if they present their views in the classroom as facts instead of personal opinions, yes, I believe they can and should be fired. They are hired to teach a subject, not be political propagandists. If they can not or will not do what they were hired to do, termination is the only logical response.
Those who risked and gave their lives in WWI, WWI, Korea, Vietnam, ... did so that we could all continue to have the right to stand up, or take a knee for what we believe in rather than submit to oppressive government control.
Let's say that as Trump and Trump's supporters desire any football players kneeling during the national anthem are immediately fired.
But in turn in college and universities, the students have the ability to fire any professor that has views out of the norm. In most cases this would have liberal students having conservative professors fired.
On the other hand the football players aren't fired for kneeling to the national anthem, and in turn at universities the students have no power to have professors with views out of the norm fired. This would make it so that conservative professors are safer to talk about their views.
People are really making too much of this.
I don't know any hardcore football fans that give a ****.
The only people whining are those that maybe watch one game here and there cause their friends are watching the game, or people who don't follow it at all.
Firing a kneeling player is ridiculous but I would like to see them taken aside and given a history lesson taught by a veteran that had been badly injured in battle. How about having a guest speaker, an illegal alien that risked his very life to walk across the desert to get to the greatest country in the world.
I don't think the kneelers have the proper perspective on just how special America is and how lucky they are to live and work here.
What gets me is that the misguided kneeling protest is spreading to kids who don't know why they are kneeling but they do so to emulate their sports heroes.
As for a college professor I think the school system in general is failing students. We have seen more discourse coming out of universities where it is being taught that America is the problem and not the exception. A professor in class should be free to debate this topic but both sides need to taught equally but with what we are seeing coming out of very Liberal universities they have been taught to bite the hand that has given them everything.
I just don't think these guys who kneel and protest know how good they have it in America and they need to be reminded but firing is not the answer.
