North Korea is a sovereign nation that wants to be seen as playing on the same level as other world leader and is using nuclear weapons to, in their view, get there. The only option we have is to get with the rest of the world and try to sanction Kim's regime into submission or bribe them to stop developing these weapons.

All of this "fire and fury" or "lock and loaded" talk is just that and Kim knows it. Trump drew his own meaningless red line. The other day when Trump said that since Kim has not taken any new defiant actions in response to Trump's "tough" words, he is respecting what Trump said. Well Kim responded and just stepped over the red line.

Is Trump going to start a war and attack North Korea in response? Not likely (hopefully), which is exactly what Kim knows.

Kim is not suicidal, he wants power and knows how much he can push the US and the rest of the world to prove he is playing the the big leagues. Short of Kim attacking another country, he is going to push to that limit to play at the same level as the US, which in their view justifies and legitimizes their regime. His engagement and our response is exactly what he wants, because he know we can't take any military action because Americans won't want to send troops back into a war in Korea and we don't want to risk Kim's immediate response which would be to attack South Korea, Guam and possibly Japan.

If possible we need to pressure China to smack Kim down a little..............

Yeah, pretty much part of the standard play book that Trump said he wouldn't follow (the play book, not pressuring China), yet after being enlighten by the generals, he's come to realize our options are very limited lest he wants to start a war.

Well, we send in the stealth bombers and blow the crap out of every military facility we can find as a warning.

How they respond is their choice. And we have some really good responses for that too. We have to end this baloney.

We can't know due to secrecy. China sure would like to know, as that is a very large key as to their future military investment direction. I think China is using Kim as a pawn to probe our military technologies.

There is nothing that can be done other than a preemptive strike on NK which most people don't think is a good idea.

Trump should probably just ignore him I don't see the point in egging him on.

I wager we are working on the tech to shoot down ICBM's if we don't already have it. Possibly from submarines or some other naval vessel. The Pacific is the only thing that would have to be monitored, nothing is going to come from across the Atlantic and Europe.

That is literally the only way anyone can hurt the U.S., once that tech is completed it's game over for anyone that would want to attack the U.S.

My guess is we have some sort of a rough draft test version of it at the very least.

Gee... what happened?
Let's get the story straight. Kim was saying he was going to fire nuke missiles at Guam, gave a date and how many he was going to fire off. Kim ultimately backed down from that threat after realizing we weren't going to send a Mr. Ed replacement to N. Korea with treats of money and better trade agreements.

Kim in fact backed down from his Guam attack plan.

I'd say they don't have the tools.

When one of his little presents hits something besides water, you will be saying it was Obama's fault for letting this happen, but your boy is in the driver's seat RIGHT NOW, and he better listen to his people who might have some ideas on how to deal with this jerk.

Every missile goes a little further, and he thumbs his nose at Trump and his attempts to intimidate him. Every time Trump draws a line, off goes another missile, and they are getting better at it every day. If you think that is irrational fear, get the Hell out of the way and let people who know the gravity of this situation work on it.
So what would you do if you were in the "drivers seat"? Give him U.S. Tax dollars to stop misbehaving, only to have him misbehave again down the road when he wants more? Or how about attack him which causes him to shoot all he's got at most of his neighbors?

I would suspect that China would never allow Kim to actually fire a nuke at a populated area.

Suspect, of course do not know. But IMO this sort of basic scenario makes the most sense out of all the craziness.

Some interesting books:

I do believe that is the case. The motive behind China's involvement is the fact that they want to know what type of weaponry and capabilities of such is. I say that if we do in fact shoot down one of Kim's missiles, we don't say a thing about any details as to how it was done.
