No, I would not support single payer. I've seen it on a smaller scale at the VA. The government can't run anything without completely ruining it.
But the government wouldn't be required to own hospitals under single payer. When the government owns and runs the hospitals, how much more government run health care can it get?
As long as I have the option to pay for private insurance. No way I would want to deal with any government healthcare.. our government messes everything up. it would be a disaster.
So are most old people finding that Medicare is nothing but a disaster for them?
Well, not always. The new Ebola vaccine was developed in a Canadian government lab in my city. Then it was turned over to a drug company to develop further and bring to market.
They are going to make money on it. The rights to the drug will be protected. Canada isn't going to allow just anyone make it.
Funny how right wingers focus on the VA and not Medicare in a "Medicare-for-all" system. Why is that? The VA has been lacking funds as a result of massive war spending supported by the right wingers. More wars=more injured. You like your wars but dont want to pay for the consequences. Then you can whine about how the VA is "broken" and needs to be privatized. While enjoying your Medicare.
The "left" (Obama) had the opportunity to do something about the VA also but shirked their responsibility.
No one has come up with a method of paying for it. Several states have either tried it or considered it, and each one dropped it because they couldn't pay for it.
If you can't afford it, you probably shouldn't buy it.
Or get on that other Republican Heath Care Plan--DON'T GET SICK!

Their premiums must be a bundle, since old people are basically uninsurable due to risk
