There are a few states which pharmacists can prescribe oral contraceptives. FDA would be willing to put them into a behind the counter class if Congress would pass a law permitting it. They would also be willing to add ED drugs.

Some of the ED drugs have other indications such as pulmonary hypertension and BPH. Prior authorization is always required to get them for those disease states. Sildenafil 20mg is generically available. The acquisition price for a Pharmacy is very reasonable. I can buy a bottle of 100 tablets for less than the cost of one tablet of Viagra.

Oral contraceptives are widely covered because they are cheap and saves the health care system money. They have existed unapproved for over 60 years now and approved for 57. Very few new medications from that era are still being used. The original ones are off market but their descendants are still available. If you are spending $50 a month on oral contraceptives, than you are spending too much.

Because they pay, on average, for 76% of your insurance.

It's THEIR money.

Heck, a Right Winger has never seen a Bill put though congress they did not want to wrap in pork fat, for the particular right wing concerns.

Heck if someone said "free school lunch for all kids", its without a doubt "Right Winger" would attack it. This is a very "hateful group", whose sole mission is to try and deny someone something and try and promote themselves as some exemption to get and waste anything they can imagine of government resources.
Nobody at all is denying women the right to buy birth control.
All they are doing is saying "buy it with your own money".

What is so wrong about that ? These are working women here getting paycheck.

The world is not coming to an end here. $50/month for birth control pills will not put them out on the streets.
Additionally, presumably, women are using birth control because they're having sex with a male partner.
Where in this argument is the emphasis on the man's responsibility to help pay for it?

Sex is a shared deal here between a man and a woman, not the state. Again, it's not very "liberated" or liberating if you need big daddy to help pay for your escapades.

A couple mature enough to have sex can manage this on their own. Nice if it's covered, cool...but no whining allowed if it's not. Man up.

'Nother thing. It's NOT THAT EXPENSIVE. This is sort of pathetic.

For example, Medicare Part D does not cover any type of erectile dysfunction drug. ... HMOs usually cover Viagra with a higher co-pay than for other drugs. The only way to know if Viagra is covered by your individual health insurance company is to examine your insurer's formulary.

The Pill usually costs between $0–$50 a month, depending on the type. Many health and family planning clinics (such as Planned Parenthood) sell birth control pills for less. And birth control pills and doctor visits are covered by many health insurance plans.

take account now the Dr will not be covered if that's why you are going to see him/her -for a refill.

but that's ok your taxes will just have more kids to feed

I say we take Viagara off the list of drugs paid for. If it is responsible for the Clintons, Trumps, Crosbys, O'Reillys and Weinsteins of the world being able to continue their pig like behavior -- let's just shut down those guys.

Agreed...viagra definitely needs to go...so does sildenafil low dose...oops, thats just generic viagra prescribed for pulmonary hypertension for both sexes...good luck removing both from all formularies...removing brand viagra will just mean most men with erectile dysfunction will suddenly and conveniently develop the same pulmonary hypertension that many women use sildenafil low dose for...lol...and that will still be covered for both sexes.

Not to speak of the fact that Cialis will still be available, which, if men can get their doctors to prescribe the low dose for bph, then theyll still have it covered, just like premarin and vagifem are covered by plans. (All of which - cialis, vagifem, premarin - improve sexual function as side benefits to their intended medical use)

I have no problem with that at all. Neither should be paid for by the government. Stop the whining and buy your own. You're all big boys and girls now. Take some responsibility for your lives and grow up.
