If more guns make us safer, why are we not the safest country?

More guns don't make us safer.

More guns combined with the freedom to carry them anywhere we like, makes us safer. Too bad the gun control advocates keep refusing us that freedom... in direct violation of the U.S. Constitution.

If all laws restricting gun ownership and carry were repealed, most people still wouldn't bother to carry a gun. But a few would. nd some guy planning to mug and old lady, or assault someone at an ATM - or even shoot up a church in Texas - wouldn't know if someone in the crowd nearby was carrying in a pocket or purse. But he could be fairly sure that a one or two people were.

And some criminals would decide not to commit their crime in the first place because of that. Presto - a reduction in crime. And without a shot being fired.

The problem is not the number of guns. It's the lack of freedom for responsible, law-abiding people to carry them.

Guns are not the problem. "Gun control" is the problem.

The police do not seem to like law abiding citizens carrying guns. I recall someone called the police on a man with a holstered gun in a store and the police were lecturing the legal gun carrier, not the paranoid idiot who doesn't know the gun laws in her state, or doesn't care. She didn't like the scaary gun.,forget the guy's rights. It is disturbing the police didn't defend the man and warn the woman about false reports and wasting police resources.

I think part of the problem is that when a criminal uses a gun to rob a store and is caught the fact that he has an illegal gun and the penalties that accompany that is often plea bargained down and the robbery charges are also reduced. WHY?

You use a gun in a crime you need to go to prison.
If we need to build more prisons then we will.
If for some reason there is a large majority of black guys that are populating that prison then the black community needs to figure that out themselves.
Why do we have so many shootings and so much crime in poor black communities?

We have a high level of crime because we need to have stiffer penalties. Last night my wife had TMZ on and a college basketball player (his older brother is a pro) was visiting China with his team to play a game. Well the kid stole a pair of sunglasses and was arrested, sadly he is black so way to represent... He now faces 3-10 years in prison. Of course this will probably be reduced but China doesn't fool around and as a result they have less crime.

More guns is not the problem. Guns in the hands of criminals that are not afraid to use them is. That is why we need to impose harsher sentences on those who use guns in their crimes and actually make them understand that there are consequences for their bad actions.

That's it.
Look at any country around the globe and their penalties of law on crime and the crime rate ... most throw people in the poky and forget about 'em. Makes a person think twice, "how desperate am I really to risk" ... btw, China likes also likes to beat the crap out of people who do not respect the laws.

Which should not be the case based on pro-gun talking points. We should be the safest in the world with so many people owning guns.

Why the contradiction?
Why aren't we the most violent country in the world?

That's seems to be the narrative you want to avoid!

A gun in the wrong hands is a bad thing. The mentally ill shouldn't have access to weapons. Everyone else, the law abiding, they should have access to guns.

A criminal will do anything, at any cost.

I don't know why the charges can get plea bargained like that.

I agree with that. Commit a crime with a gun you should go to prison. Same if you commit a crime with ANY weapon.

I don't think we need MORE prisons. We need to assess what should be grounds for prison and what isn't.

Black men have been populating the prisons for decades. Alot of it linked to drugs. The "Black community" doesn't need to figure itself out. The Black individuals who have their act together, who are not part of the crime problem, all they need to do is stay away from hood rats. The persons who keep perpetuating the problem likely won't stop.

As for why the reason for so many shootings? Well, I can only give you my educated guesses. Gang activity, anger issues, mentality among some individuals of "if I don't get him, he will get me", or "disrespect me and you die". And the latter attitude has its roots in redneck culture. Hood rat culture is just an offshoot of redneck culture. Go look up Thomas Sowell. He wrote an essay about it.

Louisiana and Mississippi are very tough on crime. However, they are two of the most murderous states in the USA. It hasn't reduced the crime rates. It hasn't scared people into becoming more law abiding. The South and parts of the Southwest leads the USA in incarceration. Louisiana, Tennessee,New Mexico, Alabama, Delaware, Arkansas, they have high incarceration rates. They also have high violent crime rates. Alot of criminals don't care if they go to prison, or if they live or die.

The states with the lowest violent crime rates: Rhode Island, Minnesota, North Dakota, New Hampshire, Vermont, also have some of the lowest incarceration rates in the nation. Vermont and New Hampshire have some of the most lenient gun laws in the nation.

As for China, I don't think a prison sentence would stop that kid. Once he leaves Chinese prison, he comes back to the USA. And there is more. China has a very collective culture, as well as a very servile mentality towards authority. One submits to authority over there no matter what, even if that authority is corrupt. Here in America, the culture is alot more individualistic, more likely to rebel. Police officers in this country will crack skulls too. The cities with some of the highest rates of policy brutality have some of the highest violent crime rates in the nation. We have young men who will fight and shoot at police, knowing the police will shoot back and kill them. We have people committing suicide by shooting at policemen for the policemen to shoot them back. That young man doesn't live in China, and likely won't be allowed back, and likely won't care. In China it works because most of the population doesn't mind. In the USA, people riot over stuff like that. It is also important to note that China limits the amount of children a person can have. China has more issues with terrorism, within its own borders, than the USA does. Look up Xijiang Uygur.

There are those that understand there are consequences. Some don't care. Many people committing crimes with guns rarely expect to live past 30. Many are young and don't think past 24 hours. We should impose harsh penalties because it will send a message. However, will it stop those coming up, who don't have any hope in themselves and don't care?
