True, we have found out that our perfect 50s weren't so perfect after all, BUT the average person in everyday life was kinder and more polite than the average person today. The average kid was MUCH better behaved than the average kid today.
If we had done some of the things in school that kids get away with, we would have been expelled. They actually expelled kids and they sent them to reform school.
And don't say that we liberals are responsible for any of this, because we don't endorse this behavior either. It's a twisted, complicated mess that society somehow got itself into.
You are correct, it's not just "liberals" that were/are the cause of where we are today as everyone allowed this social decline to happen starting with how children were/are raised and disciplined (or not).
It's not something that can be pinned on just one political party, it IS in fact the fault of social liberals which are not always the same as political liberals as well as those "conservatives" or just plain greedy people who put career and money above their duties to their families by pushing the raising of their kids onto the education system using them as nannies while they went out to do what THEY wanted. We switched from the family unit being the most important thing to the individual's wants (not needs) being put above all else. We allowed the idea that being a lazy parent was just fine as long as you were making $$$$$$$$$ and/or feeding your own wants.
For decades we as a nation have allowed our schools to become wholly one sided in their views, (almost fully socialist) and we've allowed them to believe that they alone are responsible for raising our kids and shaping their thoughts/morals instead of being the diverse arena of thought that they were supposed to be and now we're paying the price as those coddled indoctrinated kids have become adults...

It's more than a bit ironic the cons here are blaming in part modern media for today's moral ills, while also waxing nostalgic about the past, when that past they are idealizing had an even tighter concentration of media power than now. 50 years ago you had the big 3 TV networks (plus a token nod to PBS) that controlled basically all the news shown on TV. Even radio (particularly national news) was largely controlled by the same 3 or 4 entities. You also had newspapers but with the exception of a few of them (NY Times, Washington Post, pretty much the same as today) they focused more on local news, and the national news they did print tended to be the same stuff everybody else printed.
50 years ago there was no Fox News or Breitbart. Is that what the cons want to return to?
That’s quite a shallow argument against the clear modern era of mainstream media control, its impact, and totally inaccurate as well. Back then, there were NBC, ABC, CBS news, which broadcast evening news segments for an hour. Today, we have multiple dedicated news stations running 24 hours a day .... controlled by 3 or 4 corporate giants, but ultimately controlled by a couple of mega corps that control the satellite and cable delivery of EVERY television broadcast to every market nationally, be it news, entertainment, sports, or other. I would encourage you to check out some of the well put together compilations others have posted on YouTube illustrating the scripted nature of everything being broadcast, right down to the local market stations, Coast to Coast, where even innocuous information is scripted WORD FOR WORD. Then, get back to us.
But the point isn’t about the relative size of the monopoly in control of the news, as much as it is the message being presented, and agenda being promoted. And while you might erroneously assume that I’m offering some sort of politically biased personal speculation here, let me be very clear .... I am exposing an agenda that is well documented fact ... far from mere speculation. And let me be even more blunt .... given your comment targeting “cons”, the hard cold facts are ... the leftist liberal progressive movement was created for the express purpose of societal breakdown, carving up society into multiple factions of special interests, fragmenting society into a gaggle of self promoting social justice nitwits who are so blinded by their own perceived benefits, they are incapable of recognizing how they are being manipulated into embracing an hidden agenda that is ultimately self destructive. From feminists parading around in giant vagina costumes to celebrate a Million Plus abortions annually, to multimillionaire 24 year olds protesting the national anthem.... to creating sanctuary cities where illegal invaders are given safe haven to live on public assistance which exceeds that available to legal citizens. And the list goes on and on. There seems to be no bad idea to which a liberal won’t enthusiastically embrace ... no bad public policy to which they won’t feverishly promote ... all the powers that be need to do is whisper in their ear .... pissst.... you are being treated unfairly because you are black, or because you are gay, or because you are a woman ..... and they will mindlessly march right off a cliff into the abyss.
Now, if you believe this is something that naturally occurred, rather than artificially created .... look into the Reece Commision of the 1950’s, where a congressional committee was formed to investigate ANTI-AMERICAN activities of Non-profit Foundations like the Rockefeller and Ford Foundations, which exposed this agenda to take over the education systems of this country, starting at the University level to rewrite history, and remake America into a Marxist/Socialist society. One of the key elements necessary to successfully transform us is the need to destroy the middle class .... do away with God, American Values, destroy the family structure, etc.
Hard to argue that their agenda hasn’t been wildly successful, as you need look no further than the state of higher education these days, as our Universities have become a cesspool of liberal lunatics, promoting left wing politics and moral degradation to the unsuspecting kids whose indoctrination now begins in 2nd grade, as they are taught about Tommy’s two mommies and how he could really be a girl, if he feels like it.
You can’t make this kinda crap up. And it’s obvious that modern “liberalism” is the product of mind control and indoctrination, because no human being of sound, rational mind would embrace such idiocy without deliberate psychological manipulation at play.

I am big fan on old movies and can help to notice the difference in behavior btw the old society vs the new one. What in your opinion has caused that?
Someone probably said this already. The old film studios deliberately created a "happy" fictional movie world to sell their product. The studios, at one time, owned the theaters so they controlled distribution. It was all designed to produce a distorted look of the world or American life. All of this is well documented.
Meantime moguls like, Louis B Mayer, were very abusive to stars like Judy Garland. And Marilyn Monroe was very frank about the "casting couch" and what that meant.
TV and movies haven't helped. They didn't used to be so bad but now it's all about violence and crime because that's what they think people want to see. Too many people are out of touch with what life should be about and obsessed with material objects and a world that they see in the media. We've stopped caring about one another.
There is nothing new about crime in movies.
There was a massive, and somewhat popular, genre of B movies Hollywood made during WWII( eg Mildred Pierce) into the mid-50s called, film noir. They were mostly crime driven, pulp fiction oriented, and filled with misfits are miss- behaving people. Some of them became classics like, The Maltese Falcon.
The old , original Warner Brothers Studios, was built largely around crime movies starring Edward G Robinson and James Cagney. Very different stuff than the Andy Hardy movies with Mickey Rooney who was nothing like Andy Hardy in real life.
I forgot this one big thing that has contributed to the decay of society. Our lack of mental institutions today. These people are just wandering the streets. It's sad that there is no where for them to go. But it's not just that; their very existence had an effect on society then. Positive media didn't just influence people's behavior; everyone's comments about people's behavior around them influenced people to behave in a normal and accepted manner.
It was a big factor in keeping people in check regarding how they behaved and how they followed society's norms.
The stuff that is said/done today that has unfortunately become common place would have gotten the response of "Do you want to get put away for that?" back then. I heard it a lot when growing up in conversations about others. (Not talking about true mental illness and not wanting to offend anyone, etc.) but it WAS said in casual conversation. It kept people in check with their behavior, living a moral life, etc. and stopped them from going too far off the rails so to speak.

This is the problem with right-wing thinking: They think that anything that deviates from their own pre-conceived notion of what is "American" is "anti-American." I've got news for you: If the voters of the US voted in a socialist president with a socialist majority congress, that would be just as "American" as if they voted in Donald Trump and a majority republican congress. Why? Because the process that produced it was 100% American.

Look at how people laughed when Trump was exposed on that tape with Billy Bush. Who would have ever thought this behavior would be acceptable for a President of this country? Wonder if the molester was a Democrat how they would have handled it. Not the same, I’m sure.
