The ONE thing we can be sure of is that money will be borrowed to deal with it.
NOW, if only money could solve all problems. My worries are that Italians and Americans, in bulk, have traveled here in the last weeks. I supposed Italians and Americans could be flying back as we speak right now.
BUT, yeah, a smart POTUS would have said 45 days ago that we should get a few hundred million face masks...for starters...and, start distributing disinfectant.
Yes and we're in talks with congress to allocate over 1B to deal with this.
Sure you know every week wasted is a disaster? That's the problem......a ounce of prevention or a pound of cure.
I hope we still have time for prevention - but, remember, State (Trump) already decided they know better than the CDC...by putting lots of Americans who were on that Cruise Ship on a "public" flight back here.
I really hope none of these oversights end up being where the disease spreads from!
Many experienced people are gone. Not all...AND, the private and non-private sector will step up and work with the Government. But the sad reality is that most Scientists dislike much of this administration. Only 6% of Scientists ID as Republican. They saw what the Government did with the Weather Service and Global Warming and much more......
The best outcome here is that we don't need the Max Effort....and IF max effort is needed, we have to hope some of those liberal people who believe in Science step up and the Admin lets them do their thing (unlike that recent flight back here with CV exposed).
2% is actually pretty bad. If 2 out of every 100 people you interact with died you would notice real fast.
or think about it this way, if the virus becomes just like the flu, something that infects every year and we can never eradicate (those vaccines don't work) then after just 10 times of getting infected, your chance of survival drops down to 80%. 20 times, and it's at 67%. 30 times and it's at a coin flip. How many people get the flu at least once a year for the rest of their life?
For the United States, the answers are especially worrying because the government has intentionally rendered itself incapable. In 2018, the Trump administration fired the government’s entire pandemic response chain of command, including the White House management infrastructure. In numerous phone calls and emails with key agencies across the U.S. government, the only consistent response I encountered was distressed confusion.
If the United States still has a clear chain of command for pandemic response, the White House urgently needs to clarify what it is—not just for the public but for the government itself, which largely finds itself in the dark.
